I, for one, lucked out I believe. I bought my M1008 for $2350 after an intense bidding war with another bidder. I looked at the pics and it was on the same marine base I work on, I guess I could have gone and looked at it, but I never did. I could tell by the pictures that it wasn't hurt or rusted much at all. Everything was still there under the hood, the only things it was missing were the tow hooks (all 4). Mine had a new windshield, spare tire, good interior for the mostr part, etc. Since I saw everything under the hood I knew I could get it to run even though it was listed as non-running. Turned out to be a dead battery and since I had brought a pair with me I tossed one in, checked the fluids and it roared to life. That's really a great feeling Just study the pictures of whatever you want to buy as closely as you can. GL is required to take accurate pictures of each lot, they got in trouble a while back for not doing that. For instance, my truck had a drip pan under it, something was leaking. It was the radiator cap Big deal right? Just little things like that can give you big clues as to the state of repair of a given vehicle.

As for the M1008 or M1009 debate....I would go M1008 every time but that's just because I don't like Blazers. Besides the M1008 is a 5/4 ton truck, it's a beast! So it has really low gears, my solution was to build a 700R4 transmission and put some 35s on it to give it overdrive and make it highway friendly. You can get 20mpg outta the trucks too, then slap on a turbo kit and get more power. Just some things to consider and I hope I helped you out some.
