Ah I never herd of that before. Well there will be a point when that ring just goes south and its all over. I would just replace the pump. you only have to take off the intake and the oil filler tube to do it (done it). I see them on egay all day cheap. I don't know if its worth the hassle to rebuild it rather then replace due to the low cost of the pumps.
