The windows can be a real pain. Especially if the wood is rotted or split. Since the actual metal inner and outer pieces are pressed into the wood to grip it, it's not easy to just replace. what i wound up doing was to drill some holes all the way through and use some 1.5 or 2 inch long #8 screw head bolts, two on each side. Bottom one up about three inches from the bottom edge, second one about six inches above that, then tightened up and it's good to go.

The glass is HEAVY, so it would be very handy to have two people, one inside and one outside when working on the windows. If you don't have a helper outside, use the blackout cover about half way up to brace the window so it does not slip away from you.
