915A1 fuel heater

The 915 has a fuel heater in line above the fuel tank and looks to be connected to the block water lines. I think this might have been a good thought at the time but with age I am concerned about it now. I want to take this out of line and have a new fuel line made up. Just worried about failer and mixing antifreeze with the fuel. Has anyone done away with there's?
