Default I had an interesting night last night in my 5 ton.

Well,
I had an interesting night last night in my 5 ton.

As some of you may already know, i sold my 5 ton on ebay.
most of you dont know the details, i sold the truck for cash and trade.
the trade was another deuce, this time a running driving one.
the truck was in spotsylvania va. from an SS member Eddie "thebuggyman"
so we agreed to meet just south of leesburg, about half way.
well. i got a late start, so he was already on the road for a half hour before i got going,
so i was haulin ass down 27 (in a 5 ton that is 60-65mph)

lost brakes, petal went to the floor with no warning,
ran a red light that was red a good 10 sec, almost ran into someone.
stopped down at the park and ride in Mt airy.
Called Christian, who i got the truck from who lived around the corner.
caught him on the way out the door for arizona,
he said he would be down in a few to check it out, and see what he could do,
in the meantime i called jack and dave.
jack brought me tools, dave (frosty) brought me brake fluid,
and an hour and a half later, i was back on the road. with mushy brakes.
going slow, made it to 340, then off on 15, like going towards point of rocks,
I was in a good mood too cause i was back on the road and rollin.
and then bang bang bang BOOOOOM, Right Front tire blew.
when the tire blew, it was like someone shot a shotgun in my cab.
almost hit the guard rail,
got it calmed down enuf to limp it 200 yards to the next grassy area with no guardrail.
pulled off to the side, Called Eddie to let him know there would be ANOTHER delay.
figured he would be like.... umm yeah, i'm going home now.
but no, he said he would start heading my way, meet me there, and help what he could.
what an awesome offer. it was an extra 50+ miles for him R/T.

got off the phone with him,
called my dad to have him look up a truck tire place in frederick that had roadside service.
he got ahold of Donald Rice Tire. on south street. in frederick,
and they said they only had one driver, and he would be free in 15-20 min,
and he would come that way. but he was deaf.
and that a relay phone call may take place..... I was like ok. no biggie, see him in a little.

I got a call from MD Relay service, i dont know if any of you have had to deal with these sh!t.
but if you havent, avoid it. wow.
Im standing on the side of Route 15 south, which ALOT of trucks use, especially at night.
and the woman i was talking to first,
she didnt tell me i needed to say "go ahead" at the end of every sentance,
so im waiting like 2-3 min for her to tell me his reply,
and she was like... "should i go ahead sir?"
i wish i could have reached thru the phone and smacked her.
of course its a "go ahead" im just holding my breath over here trying to think of something else to say.
i was waiting for a reply.
she was like, do you want me to go ahead with that text sir ?
WHAT ? i was talking to you dummy. she was like the operator can not get involved in the conversation.
i was like... i wasnt asking you to, i was just talking to you retard. "go ahead"
so she hung up on me.
the guy from the tire guy drove by us twice in the meantime.
then called back again right before he about drove by us a third time.
i had about the same conversation with another relay operator, it was
even a guy this time, and i was just getting frustrated this time, so when the guy showed up,
i told the relay operator he was an idiot,
and i hope he doesnt have kids as dumb as he was. and he hung up on me too.
Well all of this had taken about an hour till he got there from when i called.
then we proceeded to spend 2 more hours on the side of 15,
trying to change it, i had 2 spares, but we couldnt get the tires to hold air.
ended up breaking the tire down 3 times on the side of the road,
and it was leaking around the split in the 2 piece rim because the
O-ring was just old and smushed flat over time of being pressed together.

The whole time Eddie (thebuggyman) on Pirate4x4 and Steel Soldiers, was an awesome help.
he kept good spirits, even tho the problems were with the "very nice" truck
that i had advertised and he had agreed to buy.
and he had his very nice, running condition truck and was there to pickup this
truck that was now, in non drivable condition, cause we couldnt get it to hold air.

what would you do next ? pay the $300 tow bill to have it towed 15 miles back to their shop,
or try to figure out another way ?

well we both figured there was another way.
we blocked the front of the truck, and took the jack around back.
and hoisted up the front rear left axle wheel. and took it off,
went around to the front, and put it on the front.
then went back to the axle, jacked it up to level, and chained it in place,
with what looked to be a perfect place to chain the axle to on the truck frame.
it had a little hook with retainer build right in, very stout,
so we figured that would work.
it was only 15 miles back to the shop, it should last that long.

well.... ALMOST got there. got on 70 east, at the market street exit.
BANG. chain breaks, axle hits the ground.
now the Drums on this 5 ton truck are HUGE and very beefy.
so at this point i was very discouraged and pissed as ****. so i was just like F-IT.
im driving the mile to go on the drum.
sparking all the way, we drive by a cop in the median,
who was even out of his car streching his legs, cause he was doing construction overtime.
sitting there, with the lights on. burning tax payer gas.
he walked towards us as we were rolling down the shoulder at 20 mph at this point.
but just sat there and watched us go by him.... THANK GOD.

so we roll into the tire place, the guy told us they would fix it at 7 am when they opened,
and would pick eddie up from the hotel down the street.
so i dropped off eddie at the hotel, leaving him with my title,
and bill of sale, and a broken truck down the street.
i thought i had a charge account with them here at condons,
but it turns out i didnt, and i didnt have any money to pay eddie for his hotel room.

so not only was he a trooper about EVERYTHING. he paid the tire bill ($509.00) on his credit card,
and his Hotel ($65) on his CC too.
i told him i would pay him everything back for tonights expences, and some for his trouble.
Got home at 3:50 AM.
Eddie got the 5 ton back to his place about 1PM today.
but ****................ What a night.

HUGE thanks to Eddie, "thebuggyman" Malinowski
and a Huge thanks to Joey the tire guy from Rice tire.
and Jack and Dave and Christian for the help in Mt Airy
All in All, what a Crazy Freekin Night.

another adventure down in the history books for my crazy vehicle/parts deals and money making scheems.

SHEWWWWWWWWWWWW.

But, apparently a heavier chain would be more useful for keeping your shorts clean!! WOW! Glad it turned out OK and no one was hurt.

Couldn't think of any other options. had to do with what we had or leave it sit on the Highway till morning.
the chain was a decently big chain, i think it was 3/8's but i guess it wasnt enuf for that big ass 5 ton axle.

I'm not knocking the idea, just saying that it had to be a shocker. Double wrapping the chain might have held it, if you had enough chain to get it around twice.
