Well guys, you may remember me. I bought an M817 at a city auction about 6 months ago, and asked a lot of questions. I really appreciate the help I received.
It's been sitting here untouched ever since, and I just don't have the time to mess with it. I have too many projects, and I just bought an 80 acre ranch so I'm going to have even less time.
I only have $1,500 in it (auction+towing), and all I'm looking for is the best offer over that. I haven't touched it since the auction, so I don't know much about it, other than the following:
1. It has about 38K miles and 1500 hours on it.
2. Everything appears to be there except the battery cover and the mirrors.
3. The city mechanic told me the motor was free and it was their best M817 when it was parked (about 5 years ago), but the motor not free the last time they tried to start it (about a year ago). I don't really know if the motor is really locked, or if it is, why it's locked. Maybe just hydro-locked?
4. It has a TX title
5. Air brakes were installed just before it was parked.
Just out of curiousity, is this an old city of Cleburne truck?? I saw a couple of their trucks on flatbeds going North towards Fort Worth a couple of months ago.
Thats neat !! Well then I can personally testify that the truck was well cared for. Cleburne took pretty good care of those trucks. Usually. they used those trucks to clean out creeks and for flood prevention. The had a big track loader that they pulled with a 5 ton tractor and I'd always see the trucks running togather. I can't believe that it has been 5 years since the truck ran. I guess time flies when we are having fun..
They told me they had one with a fording kit that they occasionally used for flood rescue. The mechanics seemed very honest. That's why I believed them when they said it was their best 5 ton when it was parked. Anyway, I'm sure this will make a great project for somebody who has the time to take it on.
I'll be in Denton tomorrow for some FEMA training, maybe I can come by in the evening? kinda short notice . I'll call.
I wonder what size socket fits the crankshaft pulley nut? might see just how stuck it is.. The TM says I could unscrew some plugs in the top of the heads and see if there is water or fuel filling it up. seems simple, who knows. i am not a cummins man, but that truck has "let's play" written all over it.
