Mine has a reo gas engine, does that make it a reo?
I would think so but I am far from an expert. Also I like how the data tag recommends gas with a minimum octane rating of 72; talk about setting the bar low.

It's a Reo only if the data plate on the dash lists the manufacturer as "REO." That just seems to be the standard convention for things. Your truck is made by the maker of the truck, not the maker of the engine since there was such a wide variety of engine manufacturers. (For instance, my truck has White engine, but it is considered a Kaiser-Jeep since that is who is listed as the manufacturer on the data plate and when you look up the frame number.
There were tractors in the M44-series of 2 1/2-ton trucks. Said series encompasses the M35s, M109s, M49 tankers, etc... The two tractors in this series are the M275 short-wheel-base tractor and the M48 standard-wheel-base tractor.
