Would a deuce LDT-465-1C be a compairable replacement to the continental R6602?
I know the LDS-465-1A is what replaced it but I'm wondering would it work ok? And yes I know I would need to change trans., too.
The m54 would end up being a m52 when its all done, too. So she would be loosing some weight.

I was told the LDT will make it so much more gutless than the LDS. I think the R6602 actually has more torque than the multifuel. One reason I am going with a DT466 is so I can get a lil more umph due to the fact that a 250 cummins wont fit very easily without some front end mods.

The plan would actually just be using this truck to move things around the yard at the museum and also parade duty.

The deuce multifuel will work with the proper additions. If you try to use a deuce transmission, you will need an adapter machined to fit the deuce output on the transmission to the large flange the five ton has on the transmission-transfer case shaft.
If you get a bell housing, and clutch assembly off a 5 ton multifuel, you can fit the deuce motor directly to the 5 ton transmission, I think the gas motor one, but I have not tried that. Maybe someone else on here has and can comment.
You will also need the 5 ton front motor mount fork instead of the one for the deuce.
You will need the power steering pump off a 5 ton motor.
The five ton motor leans to one side a bit, so the fan shroud on the radiator is offset. The one for the 602 is centered I believe, so some modification needed here.
You will need a fuel return line to your fuel tank and a fuel boost pump in the tank or mounted external at the tank.
The exhaust system will be entirely different, but you can probably modify yours to work if you do not mind an under chassis exhaust system.
Your accelerator linkage will need modification.
You will need to install a fuel on/off cable.
The air compressors are on different sides and at different levels, so some piping modifications needed here.
The five ton oil pan is reversed from the deuce, but it is the same pan, just reversed. You will then need the 5 ton oil pump piping because it is entirely different since the deep end of the pan has switched ends now.
There are probably some other details that have slipped my memory, but these are the ones that come to mind right now.
As you can see, a lot changes, but if you want to take on the project, it can be done. A multifuel motor out of a donor 5 ton would make it much simpler!
Regards Marti

Cost ineffective with fuel prices stay with the gasser.

you will be WAY under powered with a deuce motor, my old gasser m52 had a lot of power, got 6 mpg+ on the highway, even when I pulled the heavy LACROSS 50t lowbed I had for a bit, still got to 52 55 on tack easy

Keep the M54 a M54 and find the thread that had a gasser M52 that everyone said was junk and only worth parts.
The 6602 is a great engine. I first wanted to convert my M62 to diesel and that ONLY would have been for a ENDT-673. Now that I have ran this engine as much as I have. I am looking forward to going toe to toe down the highway with a fellow club members M-62 that has been repowered with a LDS

No contest, the 6602 will win hands down, except in fuel mileage.
A well tuned 6602 does not do bad on mileage, my 819 gets about 4 around town, 6 or so on the highyay, as I said, my gasser m52 got a easy 6+ mpg, no matter what I did, along with a LOT of power

If you are not commuting in it, I don't see it being cost effective to switch to the multi. If you were to do the swap, maybe it would do betting with a different more modern diesel that would out preform the multi and still get better mileage. Sometimes it is hard to find waste oil in a hurry.
-edit- I am also partial to the sound of a 6602. I think it is like music.
