so what is a good starting ratio for a m1009 with 90,000 miles? just filter the oil and drop it in? same with waste oil? what cooking oil burns best. most places use the creamy type of oil in fryers, not liquid. thanks for any advice.
I run 50/50 diesel/veggie in my diesel Ford Ranger in hot weather......you can run UMO but the M1009 is a straight diesel....not a multi-fuel.
Once the weather cools off you need to back off the veggie because it will thicken up in the tank and lines. In the deuce I just put in gasoline to thin it out but that may not be a good idea in the GM diesel.
My preferred oil is from a Chinese or Mexican resturant because they use the oil to cook one thing only and it has less water and crud in it.

Wreckerman, You have one of the FWD rangers with the Diesel? talk about hens teeth. do You have any pic's of it. The guy I work with runs 60% wvo 40% diesel in the summer in his 86 escort with good results. I think it is a IDI engine it has glow plugs. He also likes the Chinease resturant oil. Wreckerman, he would drool all over himself to get a glimps of your truck!
Canola, Asoyia are the best. Low- Linoelic (sp?) I do a lot of biodiesel homebrewing....these are the best for winter fuel also. I have pumped canola oil at 20 or so degrees...and it was still pumping very well.
On the other hand, I go ahold of some palm oil that was in black barrels...sitting in the sun in 85 degree....and was as solid as lard.
DO NOT just strain cooking oil. The ph must be in a norrow range because every time cooking oil is used for cooking it gets a bit more acidic. also the GLYCERIN MUST be removed. Burning Glycerin is BAD BAD BAD. GOOGLE Biodiesel I burn Biodiesel in my historic semi tractor my avitar. Veggie oil molecules have less BTUs than diesel but more oxygen molesules result higher oxygen concetration in the cylinder giving a more complete burn and more power.
I have read some on using high FFA oil in WVO and SVO applications. I had some oil that the FFA were too high to make biodiesel, so I found a buyer that did WVO in a Powerstroke. He was far more knowledgeable that I about WVO...but he was not concerned.
One of the results of making biodiesel is that it removes glycerine...and makes the fuel 17 thinner...viscosity is better. I have also read that there is a lot of energy in glycerin.
Personaly, I have never burned WVO. but have met and talked with many that do.
