Will all diesel trucks run on Alt fuel and which alts
I am purchasing a 5 ton with the multifuel engine. The own tells me that he uses ATF and atleast 20% diesel to run the truck. I have read a lot of the posts on Alt fuel message board, but I have some question since I am just getting my feet wet with this. First is will any diesel engine run on any oil, ATF or old engine oil? Second, what can I run my Multifuel engine on. Can I use old engine oil, ATF, Power steering fluid, etc. I know I can run WVO, but I am looking for other sources and possible do some blending.
Multifuels can run on just about anything oil based. we run 100% waste motor oil. In the winter we thin it with about 5 gal of gas to 45 gal of oil for easier cold starts. The most important thing is filtering the old oil. Otherwise you will clog your fuel filters pretty fast. Trans fluid, hydraulic oil, it all works. You will need to check if the FDC has been bypassed on the IP. The military did this. Its easy to hook back up. Do a search on it and you will get a better explaination. Some very high compression diesels can run on a mix but you can have a lot of issues with their injectors. Good luck with your truck

To answer your question, NO, all diesels will not run on alternitive fuels.
The newer computer controlled engines really hate anything but diesel.
As stated the Multifuel Engine is just that. a true multiple fuel burning machine. Just about anything flamable.
There are hundreds of website that discuss alt fuels.
Just watchout for the first time you run waste vegitable oil. It wil CLEAN the system and clog your filters.
Also check into getting a Blenders License from your state. With the budget problems they are looking into anyway to collect revenue. Search for the trheads when guys have paid a HEFTY fine running anything except straight diesel.

It is a neat feeling just pouring stuff in the tank that normally doesn't go there. To really get the exact types of fuels you can run, the manual is a great resource. The -10 list them out for you. Should be a data plate on the dash that says what you can and can't run.

Older diesels will tolerate some alt fuel....my 87 Diesel Ranger will run fine on 50/50 diesel/veggie oil in the summer.
Years ago it was common for large trucking companies to filter there waste engine oil and mix it with diesel in their company tanks.
Straight veggie oil does not have that cleaning effect....it is bio-diesel that has been made with metanol and lye that will clean the system out.
I have not had an issue with veggie oil clogging my filters unless it gets real cold and thickens (this is usually caused by the veggie containing animal fats due to being mixed with lard).

Thank you for all the response. I went to the COMVEC show and everyone was great too. It is good to see there are still true good hearted American out there. I am planning to use this truck on my farm to haul material, plowing, on the beach, parades and camping. So I will be using the alt fuel off-road. I will be putting a second on the truck marked for off-road use only. I think the blenders license maybe a little premature right now. I need to see how how running Alt fuel works out for me first. If I do get into blending on a large scale, I will definately look into a license.
I run my Deuces on 100% used motor oils filtered clean.
Living proof when a idiot stole fuel from my tank and pumped in right into his diesel truck he made it just to the end of the shops parking lot before his truck died and was busted.
So no, not all diesels can use oil in their systems and still run.
