Pu-58/g genset help please

I HAVE A 1951 PU-58/G GENSET. It ran until a year ago or so. I got the motor running smoothly now but it isn't making juice. I have attained the original manuals. is there a step by step protocol i need to run through to diagnosis this issue. I have heard all sorts of things like brushes, rheostat, voltage meter. I have no idea where to get parts for this beast either. Any and all advice is welcome. The unit would be great if I could get it running, i would hate to sell it because i don't have the know how to fix it.
