My county fire truck
Rather than continue to hijack the other thread I was posting in, I decided to start a new one to post a pic of the county fire truck I operate from my ranch.
I'll try to post more pics of more trucks in a couple weeks when we hold our zones maintenance day for these deuces.

Nice truck, looks like the assignee takes great pride in it! Hopefully one day you can buy your old truck and have her live on in her 3rd life, that of a rolling tribute to our armed forces!

The county bought this one about 5-6 years ago and sent it to me to replace the '53 GMC deuce that they decommissioned and sent back to State Forestry. We had the GMC since the early 80's. Was a good solid and dependable truck. I was very upset when I heard the state had auctioned it off shortly thereafter for @$300, most likely got cut up. I had put word out prior to that, that if it were to be sold I wanted a chance at it, oh well.
We are in Converse County - Douglas and Glenrock.

In 1970 I surveyed the foundations on the addition to the Glenrock Power Plant. I was down wind of the coal pile and it took me months to get all the coal dust out of my ears, nose, etc.
BTW I like the tires you have on that rig. Are you missing the side panel to the engine compartment? In the Army guys used to take them off, thinking it would improve cooling but NAY, NOT SO. The engine depends on the airflow to cool the sides.

I live @ 7 miles downriver of the DJ powerplant, in fact the first fire this truck was used on was a fire started by a BN train on the new rail loop east of the DJ powerplant.
As far as the side shields, we were instructed by the powers that be that we were to remove them for better cooling. That is why they are off, sitting on a shelf in the shed. I had wondered which was better, I think I may reinstall them. Thankyou.

How do you like those tires? They look like the goodyears i have on the A1 that i have yet to move. Kind of wondering how they do.

They are Coopers if my memory serves correctly, they do alright, better than the worn out militaries we are all used to. Have had them for at least 15 years now, kept them off the GMC that was replaced. They work good for when you are on the way to a lightning strike fire that you can't find because on your way there, the clouds open up and drown you and the fire. Now you have to slip and slide your way back home.
