I have arranged for a pickup on a big rig flatbed for thrusday (tomarrow!) I know this doesn't leave much time for your replies, but i have a problem.
The truck is not in running condition, in fact i know nothing about the condition at all except from what i can see from the pictures. I have never seen it in person. But from the pictures you can clearly see that the engine is missing critical parts (ie. radiator hose).
Ok so my concern is that with the air tank empty, the brakes will be locked, and i wont be able to get it on the flatbed (even though the trailer has a winch). Am i correct in assuming the brakes will be locked? is there any way to bypass the low air pressure lock up? Is there any way to fill the tank manually? How will i get this thing on the trailer? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Once i get this baby home, stay tuned for my new duce website.
he's right, this is unlike other military vehicles where the brake need air to unlock, instead, if you have no air you have barely any brakes at all, should be able to load it fine
shoot, if you got it for $950, that's not bad at all. I saw one on there today that appeared to have been dropped upside down from a crane or something, it was at $1300 or something
[4]Not only is that a good price, that's a fairly rare and desirable truck. Just aren't that many dropside winch trucks unless someone puts it together. Your's has the right NSN for what it is meaning its original. Pretty good haul my friend![/4]

Cool, didnt know that it was rare or anything, it was an impulse buy that i couldnt afford but I got it because it just looked so cool! The drop sides are neat and the wood part has built in fold down bench seats for the troops, but I think the winch was the main selling point for me. The tires look good and aside from the drivers seat cushion, headlights, radiator hose and cap, and batteries, it seems to be pretty much intact. $950 did seem like a good deal, but after tax and fees and towing, i have about $1600+ spent on it already. After parts and DMV title, i expect to pay well over $2000. But thats still worth it, the site manager told me that he has sold these (when running) for $7000!!!
We couldnt find a year on it for the paperwork, so we decided to call it a '69. Anyone know what year it really is?
for those interested, this is how the pickup went:
Im glad today's over with. Got on the navy base at about 10:30 am and after a problem at the entrance gate, people sending me back an fourth between buildings, and waiting for the tow truck to arrive at 1:30, I didnt get on the road until about 2:30 pm.
My cheap hook up for the flat bed flaked out so i had to pay Road One $472 to tow it only 30 miles! Finally got it home at 5 pm. I didnt like the fact that i was being charged $135/hour for the flatbed and kept running into delays. The big rig wouldnt fit down the driveway leading to the back lot where it was to be stored, so i had to wait for another smaller truck to haul it the last 50 feet.
You should have seen the look on my friend's face when the big rig pulled up with the duce in front of her house (all i told her was that I needed to store a "truck" in her backyard for awhile)
I have to go to court tomarrow for a reckless driving ticket (115 mph in a 65 zone!) which is going to hurt my funding. But after that im going to get to work on the duce to get my mind off my worries. Ill take some pictures and post them on my website http://www.angelfire.com/un/rocketman
