well, my brand new turn signal arrived and I was all excited about it fixing my stop lights. Nope, didn't help. Dang!
I should have been wary before when I was getting no power to the brake light switch, let alone out of it. So, I sat down and color coded my wiring diagram trying to make sense of it. Started testing wires with my multimeter- I was getting no power out of the signal switch to the stop lights (but was to the turn signals, they share the same wire). Test power out of my light switch on circuit 22, the stop light power wire to the turn signal switch. Nothing, so I know I'm not getting power to the turn signal. Test the power wire to the brake light switch out of the headlight switch- I got nothing. That's making me confused cause I just bought the takeoff switch from IMP. Fidegt around some more and realize this dang switch ain't putting any power to the brake light hydraulic switch. Luckily I had won a brand new light switch on eBay around the same time I bought the takeoff. I put it in and started testing wires again. Nothing No power out of the headlight switch to the turn signal, until I start fidgeting with the ground lead on my multimeter, trying to find a good ground on the cab. THEN I showed power in the 22 circuit to the signal. I got excited and had my bro see if the lights wwere coming on when I hit the brakes. Nope. Then I hit the brakes with the leads testing the wire, and they worked then then I let my foot off the brake, and with the leads still attached to the wires the lights stayed on. Then I took the leads off and tried to hit the brakes, and nothing. Well, I got really confused and switched back to the other headlight switch, got no power at all. Then I switched to the new and showed power on the leads and had my brother check the lights and now they work all the time, whether the leads were showing 24v through the wires or not?!?! I'm beginning to think there are some problems with my wiring harness, at certain points it looks like the wire coating is broken down. The brake lights still work with no assistance, but I'm really confused about why it took the extra "push" of testing the wires and getting power through my multimeter for it to get the brake lights to work. Any thoughts?
