Default AM General eyes other markets for sales

Just FYI...... Should help keep the folks in Indiana employed.

AM General eyes Europe and Middle East for HMMWV

Industry Briefing: AM General eyes Europe and Middle East

Humvee manufacturer AM General is continuing to produce vehicles at close to its peak rate for its domestic market, while it remains confident of securing international work as US demand begins to slow, the group's president has told Jane's .
"We are building Humvees at a rate of 85 per day - that's almost the same as the peak number," said General (retired) Paul Kern, the president and chief operating officer of AM General.
Kern - who will become chief executive officer of the company later this year - added: "[Domestic demand] will slow, but a significant number are still being produced.
"What most people have missed is that the Humvees delivered to the US predominantly, as well as other countries, are quite different to those being produced 20 years ago.
Kern highlighted the Middle East and Europe as two key areas that AM General is looking to for continued growth, although the latter region is "a bit different", he said, in that there is "a lot of inherent infrastructure here already.
"But we're interested in the European future market."
Kern later highlighted a Turkish wheeled vehicle manufacturer as one of AM General's European partners with which the company co-ordinates vehicle production work.
The group has also identified some growth areas in "the Far East and Central and South America, including Mexico", while India "is beginning to [look to] more Western products", Kern noted.

These old farts (General (retired) Paul Kern) already make enough money. I had to get that out of the way.

Just yeaterday when I took my HMMWV to work I was opening the windows and what do I see three brand new 1151, 4 door, driving right next to me on their way to the motorpool. I see that they didnt have a turret (ring mount) and had the hole still, but with a cover plate. Man I wish I could trade my puppy in for a 2009 model.

Anybody know why they have a company policy of not selling any parts to US civilians? Quoted from their (AMGeneral) website:

"Can the public purchase parts for Humvees or other military vehicles manufactured by AM General?

No, these parts, as well as service information, are available only to military customers. Occasionally these vehicles wind up in civilian hands. However, AM General does not support these vehicles when they are in civilian ownership.

Where can I find support for old jeeps, postal vehicles and other old military vehicles?

AM General supports only the High Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), also known as the Humvee®, and other selected military truck models manufactured by AM General in the possession of the U.S. Government or other authorized customer countries.

Specifically, AM General does not support the following:
  • any Jeep® models
  • any model of old postal vehicles (e.g. the DJ-5)
  • Humvees that are no longer in U.S. government inventory
  • any other military trucks manufactured by AM General not in the possession of, being refurbished by, or otherwise used by the U.S. Government or other authorized customer countries
  • any other military trucks not being used for their original intended purpose.
Accordingly, AM General cannot provide parts, manuals or any other materials relating to these vehicles to private individuals or organizations."

I'm not complaining, just wondering. Are they following Colt's business model?

Funny you should mention this. Colt is trying hard to play catch-up in the civilian market right now. They realized that all this time p i ss ing off the civilian market hurt them and now that the gov. contracts are almost all up, they had a 180 turn around.

Yup, yup, what He said. With the wind-down in the middle east, it may feel the pinch and have to re-evaluate their agenda. Could be China could pick up some bussiness with their aquisition of Hummer, perhaps they got the H1 tooling in the deal, and you know what that means, ......a platform to build a ......? whatever the market wants.
