Blown tire destruction
It is amazing that a blown tire can total out a HMMWV. I talked with a MP on base to find out what happened to it and he said they took her out and brought her back with a blown tire and a tore up fender and rear door. She is going to scrap.
Thought you guys might enjoy the picture.

I saw the HMMWV as well, couldn't figure it out, I wonder if scrap means back to AMG for rebuild?

I am guessing that by the looks of the other trucks around her they are going to cannibalize her and then scrap what ever is left. Maybe the hood or grill will end up on GL in a year or two

That sounds like an answer most inexperinced drivers say to cover there ass, but it looks to me they got caught up on something horse playing.

What is the PSI in a tire on one of them?
Having seen damage from blown tires before I think this pic is consistent with the story. I have seen the little 16 inch trailer tires completely clean the fender off of a utility trailer when it blew. Also saw a vending trail parked on the side of the road this past summer with significant damage to the trailer from a blown tire.
If a roadside bomb did it they would not have brought it back stateside
Bigger tire = more damage.

I agree to a point, but 20 yrs in the Army, those are signs of horse play. I have done some damage to HMMWV (horse play during road test, FTX, deployments and combat) and know what war damage is compared to horse play. Roadside, HELLl NO! I agree, tree stump or pole, I think so. But with all that said, I would still take parts off her , oh
hence my name

That is probably the whole and entire truth: They took her out and brought her back with a blown tire and a tore up fender and rear door... just as they said.
The blown tire didn't cause the damage, but was part of the damage caused by whatever it was they side swiped.

Agree with this, tire alone didnt do THIS much damage. Seen 15/16/24" blown tire damage.
