HMMWV body question?
Was reading on here where the HMMWV has a magnesium body on it and that is why there not for resale or auction to civ. Was curious on why military would make a body out of that stuff. I use magnesium bar for starting camp fires and man does that burn. If your in one and get hit by something wouldnt that light it up like a sparkler? Why magnesium for the body?

That is not correct, they are made of aluminum. They cannot be sold to the public because they do not conform to DOT standards of side impact protection, etc.

The original M151s came with magnesium rims for weight savings but they changed to steel when they figured out just how easy they burned.

The side impact as well has frontal was not a probelm for the occupants its was with the other vehicle hitting HMMWV. Thats why I put a bumper on mine. so I could easily roll over them and keep going
