Default M37 with no sparh

Help someone! I can't get spark from my distributor when In place. However, I get a great spark across the points with the distributor cap off and a hot wire to the distributor and grounding the base to the frame. Put the military cap on, install it, and no spark. What gives?

Give me a little hope here....I've been at it for quite a while now.....and I'm losing it!

OK, so now I've got spark......I think! Is it possible that the fly wheel or crank has been changed so that when at T.D.C., it ISN'T getting #1 cylinder to TDC, but another cylinder instead?

Yes, Dodge guys help out here, the distributor only goes in one way, but if I remember right the oil pump can be installed without indexing the slot for the distributor properly and the timing could be anywhere. Put your thumb over the #1 plug hole and crank it, the spark should happen when the compression blows your thumb up.
