Default project started

Thought I would show the interior floor panneling I was going to use in replacement of the original tongue and groove.
It is 19 layer plywood used to floor inside container trailers - it is just a tad bit over 1 inch thick and identical height to the metal wheel wells inside the box.
The screws to be used are the style I posted above - regular torxhead drive countersunk floor screws (same as inside semi trailer flooring). As I will never remove them I will smooth over with crack sealer.
What I am going to mark off are floor hidden boxes (such as a livewell style) between the crossmembers - to hold weather tight my precious cargo. These lids will run flush with the flooring as well.

But I know on my 109 the reason the flooring was toast was due to the fact that it has no way to drain any water the gets into the inside of the box. There are no drains at all in the steel sheeting under the wooden flooring. And it is water tight. So whatever water gets into the box must just dry by evaporation. I do not know maybe they added drains at a later date but as I said my unit has no drains at all. When I removed the under floor metal the top under the wood was a total rusty mess but the underside of the same metal was perfect. You can bet when I lay down the new flooring it will have drains built in. Today I will be laying down the first layer of new flooring. In the first picture you can see the under wood flooring tin that I took out. Notice that the piece to the left with the undercoating on it is in good shape. While the larger piece that it is sitting on is actually a scaly rusty mess as it is the top side of the same under wood tin. The second picture is how the floor area looks now before I add some 3/4 inch marine/green treated plywood today. Then on top of the 3/4 inch ply goes 1 1/2 inch of high density foam (routed out to compensate for the fact that the wheel wells will be about 1/4 inch higher than the 3/4 ply). And on top of that will go a 1/2 inch of regular plywood and carpet on top of that. Yes I live in cold country and want to use the unit in the winter.

Do you have anymore pics of your floor removed? Thanks Vinny

Default resize

I need to resize the pics tomorrow at work - that was the problem. I will take pics of the removal - there are pics elsewhere of the open crossmembers underneath. But I will also try to give the cut sizes as well - I do not want a seam going down the middle from the rear door to the front of the box. This stuff has a great finish to it and will look great with just the clear semi trailer floor sealer we use already - will be rock hard - and see the wood finish underneath.
The reason for this is to pack up and be able to leave in case of ********* that really appears to be main front on many a folks mind right now - that will explain what will go in the floor boxes so there is more storage room. Iwill try to lay this out also.

Welcome!! We're going to have to start a 109 club.

My 109 came with a layer of 1/2" plywood over the original. I haven't had the courage to look under it yet.

Default just FYI

For those getting 109a3's I do not know if this is of interest.
I have the inside measurements of the flooring and also measurements of the crossmembers build of the box.
I added some pics of what I used to remove the tongue and groove flooring - plus the removal of the steel plate pans that were severely rusted out underneath.
Between some area's of the flooring and steel pans - there was a heavy layer of FELT - like roofers felt.
Not knowing what has been stored - worked on - spilt in inside these van bodies I highly recommend wearing breathing masks. I deal with Haz mat inside trailers and you may add water to something - steam - heat and the next thing you know someone may be pulling you out if you are that lucky.
I added pic of tools I used to remove the flooring. Eye protection and hand protection highly recommended.

Zout,
I would love to get those interior measurements. I am getting ready to rip out the flooring as the box is just about done. With all the work that went into the box I do not want to leave the floor looking like it does now.
