Waiting for the paint and muffler is like that movie O Brother Where Are Thou
he is in the store and says - they are 2 weeks from anywhere.
Been looking at the Canadian mounted rack on top of the cab and been playing around with another idea of mouning a rack to the front of the box and overhang it - roughly 24 inches out - fully suppoted of course. Clicked a pic while sitting here of a free hand drawing.
Metal is 3/16ths and 10 gauge x 2" - all angle iron.
Would have to make support plates on the front side of the box and interior and bolt through. I would also use my tie downs I removed off the box side and weld these onto the rack.
Really do not want to start much till I have it painted and all that stuff put away - I can always touch up area's later. (reason for not touching the gen set at this time also)
Been digging into solar panels and my deep cycle batteries - also another bight idea for more work was to make inserts into the floor area between the x-members and hide the batteries there.
Good news is - I have 2 air seats from 04 Volvo that will go in this unit -
Picked up my friends M109A3 this weekend - another 330 mile trip with only one infraction. Loose battery connection and after searching for pieces we were on our way once again.
Got some of the wire brushing/rust inhibitor shield on it.
He does have the convertor box in his for the electrical where mine was MIA and also both boxes missing the heater for cab and box.
His floor is in great shape along with the interior of the box needing little repair.
His came with a hardtop and was great on with our rain storms once again on the trip back.
Here are a few pics of his rig.

Stay low, remain quiet, pay attention to details, keep your back to the wall and always look for a better way out.
Are you pulling all the boxes inside ?
I am missing the converter box on the lower left as seen in most pics (big one) I would be interested in purchase of this if you have it and the cost - pm me.
There were also from what I understand an elctrical cord that plugs into the main box to feed off a normal 110 circuit. let me know what you have.
Appreciate it

I was thinking of doing the same on my truck, but went with the roof rack instead as I was able to get a hold of one locally for a good price. Plus it was a lot less work for me
I think the only real problem would be supporting the front of the rack enough so that any heavy items inside will not cause the rack to get ripped off the truck when bouncing down the road. Bracing will be important.

Those power cords are worth their weight in gold if you can get hold of one. I installed my own power connections on the truck (one 15amp and one 30amp) instead of bothering to find the original military one. The original cords are very hard to find and building a new one is insanely expensive.
Good luck on the M109. Looking good so far. We M109 guys need to get together and maybe make our own secret handshake or something
You know after I looked around the shop I found 2 fuel tank mounting to frame brackets - these would work great for the rack I was thinking of. They are 24 in deep.
If these hold a 50 gallon tank of fuel at lets say 11 lbs per gallon - they should hold what I want to stick in it - plus using an inside the box mounting plate.
Will think about this and possibly post this and pics kind of temp mounted just to throw out a few ideas - what the heck - a group is smarter than an individual any day.
When this was built in the 70's - I am not an electrical person - so the thought came up as if there is newer equipment that will do the same function with less room and more solid state ? I dunno.
Pawnshop -just seen your post - here are those pics.
His interior floor is way better than mine and the electrical box on the bottom left is what I am missing (besides a Hardtop without paying an arm and a leg)
