I hope some of you radio gurus can help me and Sevo out.
He installed a Vic-1 in his deuce, and it works great. Last night he installed a vt-246 radio into the system and now there is constant static and the intercom system no longer works. The TMs weren't much help to the non-electronic savy, we did use them to verify all the switch settings and wiring.
Anyone have any ideas? we disconnected the radio and the intercom worked just fine again.

Yep, your AM1780 box needs set to other and other. I think it is set to INT and INT. You will need a small flat tip or knife blade to turn the one.

Use the radio just for show, since he does not have a license to transmit anyway. Offhand, it sounds like there is a supressor missing. Do you KNOW that the radio works properly? You may need to go to the "Boatanchors" new site on Yahoo Groups (milsurplus) and search there for an answer. BTW, boatanchors is a common term for old military radios, and once you have lugged an RT-68 a hundred yards, you'll know why. UPS man groaned when he brought one from the truck to my front door (it's long since gone).

The system that you have would probably be designated AN/VRC-43, however, check the PS magazine for the maintenance procedures for AN/VRC-12, which is similar and uploaded a few weeks ago. Steel Soldiers :: Military Vehicles Supersite

I have two army subcourses in pdf that might have the answer. 1 is for troubleshooting the an/vic-1 without a radio and the other for troubleshooting the an/vic-1 with fm radio.
I'm going to try to upload them to resources, but don't know how long it will take for them to be available. Let me know if you want an email copy.
Not sure if this would cause the situation that you describe, but have you checked to see if the internal connection in the 1029 mount (which I would guess you have) is in the remote setting? It needs to be when operating with an AM 1780 and the VIC 1 system.

okji tested the am 1780 with out the radio hooked up and all is good, am 1780 works great , zero static.
When I hook the radio up more static and sometimes it has so much it hurts.
thoughts?
I have a new antenna base coming this week so I will see if that is the problem.
