Devilman96 has a 710 I believe. It's the 4 wheel version.

I wanted one, but the price kept me away. Now I am here and well I have something green in my driveway now.

Had a Pinz 6X6. Two happiest days were when I got it and when I sold it. All controls for everything (it seemed like) are hydraulic... Never stopped counting slave and master cylinder combos. At the time, Steyr was going around to the surplus sales and buying up all the parts so that they could be the sole source for everything. Too complicated and pricey for this kid.

The 710 is back in Jax... what a love hate relationship with that thing...

IMHO... One of the best off road vehicles ever produced... There is nothing you can buy that will do what a Pinz will do with zero modification and trying to modify another vehicle to bring it up the Pinz's capability is a feat of impossibility to a large degree...

Off road... Traction, handling, maneuverability, weight, size, payload, mileage, locking axles, and the ability to go airborne without damage... Hats off to the engineers whom worked so hard at designing and producing such a brilliantly capable MV. I would put that truck up against any other wheeled and even many tracked MV's and would almost guarantee it would come out far ahead of the crowd...

On the other hand... what a PITFA of a vehicle to maintain / adapt to on road use... Every time I picked up a wrench on that thing I renamed it so many times I had to learn other lanuages due to running out of curse words... Piss poor handling, constant steering drift, crappy gas mileage for a 85 HP engine, HOT and LOUD as all get out, the leaking and the dripping and the seeping!!! Parts are expensive and very slow / hard to get. You can make mods to them but at the same time you stand to ruin the vehicles value by doing so... It really becomes a rock and a hard place when owning one.

You ether love them... hate them... or cant afford them to find out...

*thinkin*... Maybe I should go buy a 712... *sigh*

Chuckles if your reading now would be a good time to comment...

Just think what the Worm (not the Pig as Mike would have you think) would be like if you had put as much time into as your Duece!! Just remember that it was getting your hands on my truck that infected you with the OD fever. My Humble 710 is as fun as it is thirsty. 19 KM/Gal

I have had mine for 2 and a half years now and put over 30K miles on it. I don't understand when people say they are expensive to operate and maintain. I have had to do very little to the truck to keep it on the road and have really enjoyed the modifications I have done to the truck. I use mine offroad a couple of times a month in some very nasty terrain. I have had conventional offroad vehicles and have had to do a lot more repairs to them then I have the Pinz. My jeeps all got a lot worse gas mileage than the Pinz and heaven forbid I was to drive a duece the miles I put on the Pinz at the fuel consumption rate of a duece. I know it all sounds like defending the Pinz but I am not aware of any older MV that is not loud and a little uncomfortable to drive. Most MV's were not made for comfort on the road, just designed to get a job done.

I have to agree. My Pinz is a 74 meaning it is 32 years old, not many 32 year old vehicles are on the road let alone getting the use mine does. Not to mention that back then a full tank of gas woul cost less than 10 bucks

Greetings!
I am fairly new to the group. I have a 1972 Pinz 710M and love it. Even if only for the fact it can keep up with other traffic! My old WC 6 could never do that! I have had absolutely no issues with my vehicle. I too wonder about those of you who have complaints...about noise (!?), comfort (!?)...we are talking about military vehicles are'nt we? I guess after spending 7 years on tanks in the Army the Pinzgauer purrs like a kitten.
I notice that a lot of folks do alot of "upgrades". I guess it all depends on what you own one for. I have kept mine stock for the most part. I have posted a few photos of it and will post more as I take them. I would love to hear from fellow MV enthusiasts!
Regards,
