M1009 rv a/c

Has anyone tried an RV type A/C unit on top of their M1009? Did it work? Problems, do's & dont's.

Most RV A/C units require AC power, as in household current. You would need an inverter or generator to supply it with power, then it snowballs to a bunch of other stuff. Good luck.

He's talking about a thermoking reefer unit like on a bakery box van.... the answer is NO... it's a dumb idea unless you never plan on taking the top off and if you want try to put it above the cockpit.... wear earmuffs....

He did specifically say RV unit in his original post. A second top with an A/C would be kinda nifty for tight camping quarters. Might get a bit nippy in the back though.

Yes Guys I meant like the ones on top of an RV camper. Also, Do they run on DC battery power?

No, they are usually 120v.

RV units run on AC from a gasoline generator that uses 12 volt battery to start. Generator is in the range of 6.5 KW. So, you would need the roof unit and a genset to power it. You may be able to fit a large alternator under the hood to power it, but then the 1009 engine would have to be left running. If you want to leave the engine running when you need AC, simplest solution would be to strip AC from a civy vehicle.

Why do you want to do this

Just a thought I had.

Someone on this site installed a small portable unit inside the cabin using an inverter and says it works great! Might be more what you are looking for.
