Brit Gas Can Mystery

I have what appear to be 2 British WWII Jerry Cans. The 1st as shown in pictures, is dated 1944, and Marked with Maker's mark and the British Arrow.

THE SECOND CAN, however, is IDENTICAL to the 1st EXCEPT, there are NO manufacturer's markings, or date any where on it. AND it has the U.S. Military Style "X" on both sides. Anyone know WHY? or any other history on this can?

Germans were the first with the Jerry Can design from what I understand, then everyone else got in the act. Thus, your second can might not be British!

The unmarked can was made by CONCO (H. D. Conkey Company) of Mendota, Illinois for the U.S. Marine Corps during WW2.
