can you just visit a GL yard anytime? I'm going on a road trip soon and will pass by the 'CA, Lassen, Herlong/Sierra' GL yard en-route and wondered if a non-bidder (at the moment or for a current auction) can go in and take a look at the operation and trucks on site at that time..

Can't speak for all of them but when I visited French Camp I had to call ahead of time and get an appointment. I guess they only let in a certain number of people on any given day. The GL people took me out to the area the surplus was in and stood around while I inspected and took pictures. I guess theft is a problem though I would have needed a bigger coat to get a deuce out the gate.

No, for the two here in eastern North Carolina. Monday is the only day you can look or pick up at Camp Lujuene.

I think it all depends on the GL site itself. When I inspected at Chambersburg, the guy followed me for about 10 minutes, then when is started raining, he went inside. I inspected for 4 hours, took lots of pics of the stuff I was interested in. (I didnt make it obvious I was taking pics). When I was done, I found the guy, told him I was leaving, he seemed not to care.

When I picked up the items I had won, I signed in, did the paperwork, and the guy told me "your truck is out there" pointing to the whole yard. That was the last time I saw him that day.. I could of picked up anything and loaded it on my semi, but I didnt. Im sure others would have...

Sharpe and Herlong both require appointments. Herlong is un-manned, the people who work Sharpe also take care of things in Herlong.
I'll be at Sharpe Tuesday picking up some new wins... 9-11, should be fun getting in.
