 Finally my ex USMC M 1046 (with winch) is ready....I know the doors are not the origional uparmoured ones....they were 200K a piece EXTRA...+ a lot more weight..., and I do like the X style doors actually.
It use to be camo....but I preferred the sand tan color...
will probably swap the MT tyres for RT tyres later...

Great looking HMMWV!! The tires are even on the correct way, you would be surprised at how many people put them on backwards. Good job!

thanks !

Thanks for the positive feedback Guys.
the guy who reassembled the humvee is a real pro. 8)
funny about the tyres, never knew some people install the MT tyres the wrong way, but I do prefer the RT tyres as shown on the camo version, the RT's look a bit better.
Regarding paint: It took me a long time to decide...but finally I choose the sand tan...
maybe someday I will paint it all green like the inside of the bodyshell.....
cheers

RE: thanks !

I like the green camo as well. But it still looks great. What are those tires that you put on the HMMWV? I am familiar with the Super Swampers that it used to have, but those road tires don't look right to me....

RE: thanks !

Nice job Bart!

I am curious, how does one find a HMMWV in Europe? Are they commonly available on the surplus market?

David

Hi Mike, the MT tyres are the original tyres supplied thru AM General on new hummers/ humvees I believe they call them good year wrangler MT.(37 inch)
the tyres on the camo pic are the more offroad style good year wrangler RT.(36 inch).
both are in use on military humvees.

Hi David,

thanks for the feedback, I see your from TN, actually I purchased this M 1046 in Memphis TN at:  Blair Outlan located in Memphis TN see: www.usedH1.com for more details.
(blairs email: sales@autogalleria.net and his mobile tel nr. 901 378 8877)
he has over 15 years of experience with H 1' s and Humvees, incl. parts and more.

In Europe there are some available, (see: www.mobile.de) all ex US Army + mostly M 998's soft tops, origional slantbacks are not widely available.
Most humvees were shipped to Iraq a couple years ago, and they didn' t came back...., besides this the US military is moving EAST to Romania...
secondly we have the VERY high fuel/ diesel prices..., but now with the strong EURO and weak US Dollar it's relatively " cheap" to buy in the US, that was the main reason, besides the fact that I wanted a origional slantback. :D

SWEET!.. I have a M1044 I just bought, and im restoring it. Just bought the Armor up doors, winch, radio, Gun Shield, and all the missing stuff for it. Stay in touch..I will have myne ready in a few months..
Im painting it the Camo pattern with real CARAC paint. Expensive, but correct.
Looks Sweet..Hard to find any more Up-Armored Hard backs any more..Let alone a Wepons carrier..

Hi Kevin,

thanks for the feedback, good to know your' e a humvee addict too....
i was wondering what the difference is between you M 1044 and mine M 1046 :? so
I checked internet -> http://www.geocities.com/ph_armstrong/AFV/Trucks/M561.htm
and this is what is say's:
M1046A1: TOW Missile Carrier with winch, extra armour
M1044A1: Armament Carrier with winch, extra armour
but the X doors in mine are not origional, I had to pay EXTRA for the uparmoured doors...+ 200K each.., since we pay roadtax by the total weight of the vehicle + high diesel prices I skipped the uparmoured doors...
pls. email me pics when yours is ready at: barthummer@gmail.com
Got some questions kevin:
what kind of tyres are you installing??
why camo...??
where do you buy the missing parts...??
catch you later.
greets.
bart

RE: thanks Kevin

Thanks!,
I see you still have the extra armor, (bolts on the side). I also have myne. I got the doors for 900 delivered. Could not pass it up. 2 were NOS. I got all my other parts from Mike at Rank and File. Also, your Humev and Myne have the bigger rears, heavy duty springs etc, for the extra weight. I am leaving the stock tires on it. I dont know how much better the radials are to get them, and I have to upgrade to 12 bolt rims for radials. I got the military red dot A/C setup for it. Lucky I got myne cheap and can afford to put some $$ back in to restore it.Check out the pics I left a couple messages ago on the form. (my new M1044). I will have more pics later...

Thanks again Kevin.
question, I'm NOT a humvee specialist you know..." I see you still have the extra armor, (bolts on the side)" which bolts do you mean...??
can you show me...? or mail me at: barthummer@gmail.com
I know about the heavy rear springs, the radials are the ones fitted on my sand tan M 1046 called MT I believe, the RT' s are bias tyres as shown on the camo version.
the LOOKS of the RT's are MUCH better !!
will take a look at you post for SURE.
keep me informed on the process of you M 1044

correct..!

emmado22 said:
The radial MT's on the 12 bolt rims are the way to go. MUCH better ride, and better MPG (not that it matters much)

thanks for the advise.
you' re correct on the smoother ride and miles per gallon, or as we say Kilometer per Liter.., and it even has a fraction better top speed as I have been told...
but when it comes to the " looks" ....I rather choose the RT' s..
Question: 12 bolt rims are the same as 2 piece rims...?? :? :?

The humvee rims come in 3 "flavors"

8 bolt for the bias tires
12 bolt for the radials without the extra hole lower weight rating
12 bolt for the radials with the extra hole #3850 weight rating
