I keep getting an error on the SpelChek saying that it is temporarilly unavailable. Is there something wrong with it? At this point I am not able to use it.

It's been that way for me for several months. It actually seems to have gotten worse. It used to struggle through a spell-check, it would identify the mistakes, but it would not correct them. Lately... nothing is happening at all. Just a blank screen.

I think the code that drives it has gone defunct. I will have to take the time to remove the button.
I suggest using google toolbar for spell check. Much better
