you forgot the magic word lol just kidding. First, you'll want to go here:

https://www.logsa.army.mil/etms/ind...e2291170e-D5D25FB2-E46F-8BDD-CDC2E7A8708EC4BC

and look up the following pub numbers in that search area and download them:
TM 9-2320-361-10 operator's manual
TM 9-2320-361-20 maintenance
TM 9-2320-361-34 maintenance
TM 9-2320-361-34P repair parts and tools
TM 9-2320-361-20P repair parts and tools

or just search for M35A2 or M109 in the pub title text and all the available manuals will come up

air filters just need to be cleaned, they're reusable, and the first fuel filter is very hard to find or unavailable. You'll need to remove that and clean it, but be careful cause then you'll need to bleed the fuel system.

also bank some money on new batteries, it's unlikely they'll be able to fire having sat so long.

Change the oil, all 22 quarts of it

then to the brakes- does he have any clue why they don't work, or did they just "quit"? You'll need to find out what happened before he decided to park it. Do you know if the air system holds air, or did when it was parked?

The 427 is an overgrown paperweight. You'll need a LDT465-1C, LDT465-1D, or a LDS465 to replace the engine you have. My personal favorite is the LDS series because it's got the most bang for the engine. The 427 just gets in its own way and can't find a torque curve to save it's life. You did good to find the truck. Now feel welcomed into the hallowed halls of us MVer's trying to find the right parts at cheap prices! We're happy to help in any way we can (with the possible exception of free cash.. we all need that!). Keep us posted!

here's the scoop- if it were the OA 331 it will be quite easy to tell by the spark plugs, if there aren't any plugs it's the LDS 427, a real boat anchor. Now, it's possible they ran all kinds of crap in that gasoline engine, but it wasn't good for it!

If you can swap out the head gasket, that would be a solid idea. I had my eye on that truck, but alas, it was too far away.

If it were me, I'd buy the M109, but not part it out. Sure, you could get some $$ for the axles (not sure if there's a big rock crawler crowd up in upstate New York though....)
But I'd keep it for a project. You'll find that $200 for a deuce is too good a bargain to pass up. Either for a restoration or just parts, assuming you have a place to store it.

i got my hardtop from TNJ MURRAY Worldwide Services. it cost me $350. they also sell trucks and are located in dover deleware.

considering that an M35 shouldnt be operated over 55mph, it would take you 7 hours of driving if you went nonstop and didnt hit traffic. but with the traffic, fuel stops, $2 and change a gallon for diesel while your gettin 7 mpg, possible breakdowns and the time at work your gonna loose and not get paid for while your on your trip, $700 doesnt sound all that bad. you could also buy one from the government auctions. i been watchin the auctions this week and their gettin anywhere from $750-$2300 in VA at St Juliens for M35's
