I've explained my reasoning, which isn't simply I don't want to do it due to work. (Breaks web search results, further splinters the forum when expanding out sections)

I guess I should use the line that some of the moderator staff have used previously. This isn't a democracy, it's a benevolent dictatorship.

Can we have a 5 Ton Forum?
DONE!! Great idea Firefox<img src="emoticons/icon_smile_cool.gif" alt="Cool">
Wow the search feature does work....................Even way back in 04 it was needed.
In the spirit of fairness, there wasn't any 5 Ton forums at the time this request was made. Bruce requested one in the first post and Chris indicated that it was done in his post. So, yes, it was needed in 04 and granted.

This is really strange. I started this thread. Chris was nice enough to
establish the 5 Ton Forum I requested. I certainly don't mind sharing
the Forum with these new people. I do feel bad for them seeing as us old folks
have the best trucks.....Just kidding.

Patracy makes a good point regarding searches.

Apparently no one bothers to read anything I've posted.
Yes I actually reread all of the afore mentioned post and understand what was posted by yourself and others but I also see if the five ton and up is not split up it will be a bigger mess than it has become in the six years it has been around. Will say that I and VT have chatted about this a bit and the three treads probably should be merged I am not trying to beat you over the head with it but have a discussion. I do understand we have a lot of different forums but the part I don't understand is why we can have lots of forums that have very few post and owners if any (Bradley) just to list one, and some odd Russian truck that has like 9 post. I do get that you have a large job and I appreciate your struggle to keep us up and going. Guess what it boils down to is I would think that several smaller forums would be easier to take care of than one massive one crossing many eras and types of trucks that if it keeps growing at the rate it is, will be the biggest forum and cover the widest selection of different trucks.

I really would like to collapse more forums together. Several forums actually make it harder to manage instead of just large ones. Each forum gets it's own set of rules that are managed independently, Also any routine task are also split up by forum. That's just how vBulletin works.

I honestly think I'm going to start combining forums to streamline the site a little more. (But again, I'm not going to make more. The goal is to end up with less) The IFA forum will be the first test to see how long it takes for Google to catch up.

It's pretty simple to use the new threads button to view the threads you wish. Also when searching, the advance search link allows you to filter by forum.

Here's some tips about how to use vB's search syntax.

Limitations
Minimum Word Length: 3 Characters
Can't search common words (she, her, him, you, they, exc.)
Can't search special characters (alpha numeric only)

Basic Search Syntax
  • Search multiple words use Boolean operators such as:
    - AND (ex. ajax AND instant)
    - OR (ex. ajax OR instant)
    - NOT (ex. ajax NOT instant) or use the minus sign (-) (ex. ajax -instant)
  • Search for an exact phrase using quotes:
    - (ex. "instant email")
  • Search for wild cards using asterisks (*)
    - (ex. *mail)

BTW collapsing IN forums is very easy, it's just a matter of selecting every post in that forum and moving it.

Pulling posts out of an existing forum and populating a new one is a manual process. Open each thread, make a judgement call of "this really should go over here", rinse, repeat.

I'd love to employ a staff of users to assist in a task like that. Unfortunately, that'd require them to have moderator rights (design of vB). Also, any of the staff here will attest to the fact that some admin actions of vB are cumbersome. It would take a little time to train the team on it as well.
