of all the M35's made, where were they sent? How many remained stateside versus shipped overseas? How many came back versus left there? Can you tell a specific truck's history by its VIN, or is that a lost cause?<img src="emoticons/icon_smile_disapprove.gif" alt="Disapprove">

just wondering if I should think about restoring the deuce I'm getting to original issue paint at least, or doing my own job

Deuces were sent all over the world. I don't know where you could get the data, if any exists, about how many were shipped elsewhere. The military never really kept any history on these trucks especially when there were so many two year recruits whom didn't care about paperwork. Trying to find out about a particular truck's history is hit or miss. I got extremely lucky with mine. However, most trucks aren't well documented.
Good luck!
P.S.- Where did you get your truck? From Idaho Motor Pool?

I haven't decided 100% yet to get it, I am still making sure everything is accounted for (see my registration question). But, I have my eye on #186 from Idaho Motor Pool. I'd have loved to deal with Joe YOung or Eastern Surplus, but they're just too far away. Alex has been more than helpful though. I'm glad he was reccomended.
There are no other options I see, so if I get it (I hope!) that's where it will be from

#186 looks like a really solid truck! Alex has the price and options for that truck dead on! If I was looking for a truck that would be one of my first choices. Believe me, you want cab heat! The shock seat will help cushion the ride (major plus!!!). In a while you might want to look at buying a hard top for her to help keep the heat inside the cab better in the winter...... Just a thought.

yup, she's a beaut! All the options, except drop side bed and winch. I can add those later. Alex said he can single rear wheel it for me to make the trip a little smoother, pull out the rear axleshafts/driveshafts and send me a flange to make my own disconnects off and slap them on when I get there. I'm so damn close to putting the money down!

Hey MM.....I got my 1988 M - 35 A2C w/winch from Alex and he is a man of his word and a fine gentelman. The truck I got from Alex is far beyond what I looked at from pictures. It has 6706 miles with 300 hrs.
You cannot find a nicer man to do business with, never mind thinking about it ..do it..
Good Luck

I've been deailing with Alex for at least ten years now. What a great guy, #1 in my book for sure. Come to our fall meet in Gridley and you can meet him in person. He usually makes all of our CA and OR meets.
