MSRP and registration costs and GVW

hey all, I am estimating my DMV fees and several factors make a big difference in cost- What was the original MSRp on these things?

Also, some had said their titles say GVW of 12,000 pounds, others 23,800? Does it all depend on who you catch at DMV and how *naive* they are? The truck I'd like has an Idaho title, does that mean the GVW has already been assigned or did you all have to have them determine that when you first registered in your own states?

thanks

Here in Indiana they want to know what weight you are delaring, not what the manufacturer suggests. My example is my Deuce is rated from the factory for 23,850 pounds gross curb weight. However, the plate I have is 26,000 pounds and no need for a C.D.L. (even though I have a C.D.L.). The state charged me $250 for a year (cheaper than many other trucks). They also ran a V.I.N. checkto verify it changed hands from the Feds to me. The other part of the deal is I paid $1750 for my truck too (check my website link to see her condition when I first got her and what she looks like now).
I hope this helps!

Was curious as to the problems i might run into, as the truck i have i just bought from a guy that had it, his brother ran the truck for a ski resort but after the college kids shot ether to the engine it began to knock, so im not sure if the ski resort still has the papers on the truck or not, as it did have a state use tag on it. I may be in for a mess and didn't even realize it. Is there somewhere you can get a title for these things in your own name?

In Indiana, the current owner has to provide a replacement title if the original is lost for some reason. They must fill out the title replacement form and it takes about six weeks before a new one is issued. Plus the DMV also makes a physical inspection of the vehicle and runs a VIN check to verify the vehicle is not stolen. I have no idea about VA and how they handle this situation. Here in my area there are quite a few hot rodders and we have years of experience in how to go about doing this in Indiana. Good luck!

possibly the DMV, but not CarFax. They told me my VIN was invalid. They're only a nine digit number, so even DMV may hassle you <img src="emoticons/icon_smilie_bitchin.gif" alt="Bitchin">

but, my VIN is on the title so they can't argue with that
