Guess I will join the club.Got screwed on a GL purchase.Bought a trailer(Picture below). The photo showed a pig tail and cover on it.Well,Offy went to pick it up a few weeks ago and last weekend I went to bring it home and the cover,Pig Tail, and air hook ups were all gone.Found out offy found the cover laying on the ground next to the trailer and threw it in the back.So nice of them to allow people to Illegally steal our property that cost us good hard earned money to buy.The Pig tail was not just cut.It was removed totally.Unbolted and unplugged.....I hope.I ain't got under there to check it out. This was all at Redstone Arsenal so Buyer beware if you buy from this place. You might not get what you bid on.

This seams to be a better business B issue take the pictures to them and show them what you got false advertizing Have you noticed how the shots of the M1009's make them look like a suburban. Kinda like if you married your wife and she never took off her clothes.

It really does not matter if you can prove it or not. The best they will do is offer to allow you to back out of the sale. I think Kenny said it best, GL SUCKS!!!! People...these are not isolated incidents. Parts are being stolen off of trucks and trailers across the country. I wish some of the people that PMed me would chime in about their losses.

Class action. That is what it takes in this Country to makes businesses behave.

Same thing here, was bidding on a deuce that stated "driven in" Was bidding based on GL photo's, but the truck was close, so I went to look at it at lunch the day the bid closed, glad I did because it was stripped of many parts rendering it inoperable.

So why do you all keep from buying from GL?

Buy from a dealer where there is no question as to what you will get.. You'll also get your DMV paperwork at the same time with no EUC/SF-97 waits.....

Stop supporting what you complain about.

So if Clark had sent you pics of your HMMWV and then delivered it missing items, I assume you'd be just as chipper?

Come on man, quit making excuses for them. They are a business and should be held accountable.

If they want to be in the business of selling govt. surplus, they need to get together with the govt. agencies they are dealing with (military, federal, etc.) and have a plan/program in place that protects consumer purchases from pilerage. It isn't difficult.

I went to Clark, picked out a truck, and went back to pick it up several weeks later. At that time, I handed them a check when it was according my liking. Not a moment before. Also got the DMV paperwork that same day.

I also knew their reputation before I went there, and no one had bad things to say about them. If it wasnt what I expected, I'd shop elsewhere for one.

Was it cheap, no. Was it what I expected, yes. Would I do business there again, yes.

If people know how messed up GL is, and what can happen, and what you see may not be what you get, then why support them? SHOP ELSEWHERE until they clean up their act (if they do)...

GL is a gamble at best. Dealers are pretty much a sure thing. But people dont want to pay dealer prices, so they shop GL. They also realize that there are reasons why dealers charge more (replace missing parts, the paperwork wait, etc) Thats all worth something. If you want it from GL, you know what you may be in for.

I agree, it's not hard to stop piflering.... GL needs to do something.

If I dont like a business and their practices, I go elsewhere.. Thats why I go to a car dealership 15 miles away from my house, instead of one 2 miles away. The close pissed me off once, and in the end, I DIDNT buy 4 brand new vehicles from them over the course of the next 2 years. So they lost out. And they know it, as I drive by there everyday.

Like I said before, vote with your dollars, thats what makes businesses change.

FT...sorry that you were ripped...that's a real shame. I'd agree with the sentiments here...GL needs to protect that which they are selling. It's nice to have the freedom to browse the lot when I go to pick up something, but I do believe there is more wisdom in having over site there to ensure nothing gets ripped off.

I've got news folks - this isn't a GL issue per-se. First, I can only think of two trucks I've bought from GL, vs several from DRMO. On the the DRMO trucks I had levers, shackles, fuel pumps, light switches and even a windshield taken through the years at Riley, Campbell, and Shelby.

So - who is the crook here GL, or whoever unbolted the pigtail? You're pissed at GL cause your stuff is missing - GL didn't take it, some other joker did. Before I started writing for a living, I had a hobby shop. Thieves stole stuff off my shelves and out of kits daily (one reason I left the business) - if someone bought a kit with something missing, we made it good, I replaced the item if I could or gave a full or partial refund (their choice) and then I ate the loss. And on the better RC helicopters, airplanes and cars, this could be substantial (read hundreds of dollars).

BUT if someone had said they "got screwed" by me because someone else stole something, I'd have told them in no uncertain terms to never, ever darken my door again, and I'd likely not have given then a refund either (If they ignorantly accuse me of stealing, I can accuse them of losing). Any further lip from the "customer" would result in their physical removal from the property, in a most uncomfortable manner, and that is not conjecture, that is how I conducted business.

Did GL also steal the guns from the shed behind your house? I'm sorry - but your complaint just doesn't wash FreightTrain. Have you calmly called someone at GL and explained the problem (of course, that there was a delay between pickup and when you actually saw the items may not help your case), and try to work something out with them, or did you just go on line and start complaining that GL screwed you?

Think about it.

Regards,
David Doyle

Problem is the guard unit at redstone (for example), holds the GL units until they are removed by the buyer. If they need a part I guarantee they will go get it off a DRMO'd truck before their truck is down AWP. It isn't GL's fault in this case as they have not been given a secure spot to store the trucks once they get them. It is a fenced in area but the Guard guys have free reign in there.

Unfortunately, once a part is removed and installed elsewhere there's no way to prove THAT part came off of a particular vehicle, short of surveillance video footage.
If other buyers are to blame then security should have to answer for the lack of proper coverage.
If the guard unit is doing it, then it's "field-expedient" in it's worst form.
GL may be functioning under the business practice of 'who cares if we don't have repeat customers, there are enough first time buyers out there to keep us going'.
THAT'S what needs to addressed and maybe a class action is what it needs to come to. Question is can we get enough people together to become a voice?
Heck, some days we can't even get four guys to agree on where to go for lunch.

So FT.. answer this for me...

GL 'allowed' something to be stolen off the trailer? Is this like how you 'allowed' your guns to be stolen?

For that matter, did you GO inspect the trailer before you bid? Maybe GL made a listing error and submitted the wrong photos? I bet their terms probably even state something along the lines that photos may not be an exact representation and that they are not liable for any discrepancy.

Its YOUR responsibility to inspect your items before you buy them. And for that matter, its YOUR responsibility to sign that you picked it up in proper condition. When you delegate the pickup out to someone else, you have already accepted the item at that point. Had YOU gone and picked it up, you would probably have a little more recourse.

And I agree with e22. If you dont like it... STOP buying from them. The majority of you guys who complain about GL are hypocrites. I am sick of this 'do as I say, not as I do' attitude to GL.

Lets put it this way.... say you have a local store. Every time you buy something there, a part is missing, or its broken, missing paperwork... whatever. Would you continue to shop there?
NO!! So like e22 says. Why the hell do you keep buying stuff from GL???? I will tell you. The difference in price between GL and anywhere else is WORTH the hassle & price.

So shut your damn mouth.

This was all at Redstone Arsenal
I would like to confirm where this trailer actually came from. Redstone Arsenal is one of the major DRMOs in the country. They still have a full time office there and so does GL. There is currently 600 items up for sale there. I have bought a lot of stuff from the Arsenal and have never had anything come up missing. They have fenced in lots and locked warehouses.

GL has just started selling trucks storied at the National Guard base in Huntsville. I haven't bought one from there, but I assume they just send someone over from the office at the Arsenal and the rest of the time it is under the care of the National Guard. I am assuming this is part of the new sales contract that GL won. One of the conditions was to move the stuff off the active bases. It looks to me like GL is having major problems with the new system. This looks like another case like what happened to Bruce at Montgomery. The mechanics at the Guard unit aren't being given proper instructions (or proper motivation) on what can be cannibalized and what is off limits.

I would like to add that theft has always been a part of dealing with DRMO. It is an accepted part of buying surplus. If you can't accept it you should buy from a dealer. On the other hand, I appreciate FT post. It illustrates that there is a problem with the new system of renting space at the local national guards and we the buyers should take that into account and adjust our bidding accordantly.

I think DDoyle has it right, the biggest problem is other buyers that are free to roam the lot unsuppervised.
Some locations might have units that still can have accest to items but alot of locations are off main areas and only GL controled.
Tight restrictions on accest would mean exceat appointments and waiting for escorts and a limit time to look, then escorted out.
When picking up you could wait outside till they bring your stuff out to you, or something just as inconvenent.
Like in the old you pull-it junk yard days, where they would check your tool box for small parts.
