What is the plan? If this is for a VFW, American Legion, town square display, and some museums, you can request vehicles from TAACOM (Tank and Automotive Command). They usually have 113's readily available and may still have a few M60's sitting around.

Be forewarned there is a very specific demil process for these vehicles that must be certified by a US government inspector. You will also be responsible for transport of the vehicle.

There is a potential side step to the transport and certification issue. By using the political machine, it is potentially possible to have a senator or congressman request the Guard to transport it and demil it. Might even get a concrete pad built by an Engineer unit---maybe.

YES THEY DO! Taacom will send out a letter every once and a while and ask if it is still there and in the 7 years we have had a duster they have show up in person twice.

Yes, it is considered loaned equipment and stays on their books. When looked up for location, they show as kept in Anniston AL but are actually in Hometown USA.

The demil for M50 tanks is pretty easy as far as the chassis goes. The tracks get welded every 3rd to 4th link and the engine blocks get the blue tip wrench treatment to open them up for better ventilation. Heard this story from a MATES down in La. Seems TACOM let some M60's go to a few VFW's before being demiled. The only way anyone found out, a certain VFW in La was driving their M60 in a parade. There was a recall and the M60's got the demil done. I've been told that certain tug boats use the same desiels as an M60. I don't know if this is true.

Most of the stuff that we have had come to the museum as "demilled" has been welded shut and had the power packs ripped out. The tracks haven't been touched. When I mean ripped out on the power packs I mean all they do is remove the "hard mounts" and fuel connections, hook up a crane and start pulling. Pretty much all of the electronic wiring is screwed up by the time they're done. I'm sure there is a mil spec on how to demil different models but it seems that some places don't necessarily follow it.
