ok, the guy im buying my deuce from is offering to give me an air shift front for the sprag (its free, or should i say included in the price of the deuce)

he has a good sized shop WITH tools. i have to change it myself.

so, how long to change it? 5 hours? 10? 20? it will be me and a friend, and he may or may not help....

i need too schedule it on the day i pick it up, as hes about 2 hours from me in the deuce. i dont want to buy it, drive it home and have to drive back up there.

So Lee, he wants the sprag portion returned to him? If he doen't I would just change it at home. I'm not sure how much time it would take. Is the air shift part off or do you have to remove it from another transfer case? Jeff Symanski at Tactical Truck has done the swap but I'm not sure on how much time it took him. I think I'm going to do one here soon. I have a buddy with a buch of cases and I know he has at least one air shift that has a bad bearing. Might borrow that from him.

i havent asked if he wants the sprag case back. i assume (we know about ass u me) he does though

the air shift case is still in the truck. so i have to pull it from one truck at the least. then i was planning on putting it in mine. am i understanding that i only have to remove a portion of the case? not the ENTIRE case???

I have my airshift in transit as we speak- it is my understanding from Dave at Eastern Surplus the only thing that needs to come off is the front case cover. He said if anything, the case may need to be unbolted and moved to access all bolts, but probably not. I should know soon enough what all is involved, can't wait to have air!

Man I wished you guys were near me! I've got the way coolest transmission hoist for the deuce and 5 ton. It's got telescopic legs and sits right on the floor. Works like a dream on trans and transfers. Gov't surplus and overbuilt as heck! I think it's the next handiest thing since the medium towbar!

Ken,
Could you post some pics so maybe I could build one similar? I'm curious about how it looks and I'm good at fab'ing steel when I have the time. TIG and stick are my favs.

Check this info out. The NSN for the hoist is 4910-00-448-0254. The manual is on Logsa or at least it was. My encryption doesn't allow me to go to Logsa to confirm. Heres the tm number TM 9-4910-587-14&P
If you still want real pics I'll scare the hoist out of the back of the contact maintenance truck and snap a few!
