Well gang, a buddy of mine just got a clapped out rust bucket of a pipeline maintenance truck. After some wheelin and dealin looks like I'll be owning some of it. He's taking the powerpack, front winch and front drive axle and misc small parts from the cab. I'll have all the important stuff to reassemble this into a pipeline truck or swap all the stuff to a new truck. These are way cool trucks capable of earing their keep in the yard. Can't wait to get it going.

Sounds like a good project. My Dad has one. If you decide not to build it up, let me know. My Dad will buy the rear winch, gin poles, and any accessories you may have for his project

Here's a pic of his:

Chris, the funny thing about the whole deal is that the only parts missing from my truck, your dad has on his. I have the binders, side adapters, winch even 3 out of 4 sheaves. I don't have the sides or troop seats. Other than the sides and seats, I'm missing chains and winch cable which is easy stuff to replace. I've wanted one of these as long as I can remember so don't hold your breath waiting on me to scrap it! Here's a question! I've had 2 different folks tell me that the pipeline trucks have Detroit Lockers in the back. Can you check with the dad to see if he has them or knows?
Thanks!

I was just checking out that pic. Did he get the truck that stripped out? Looks like even the stiff legs are gone. I know the spot lights are.

Cool, these are pretty rare trucks to come by for collectors, usually the construction companies would snatch them up and work them into the ground. That's interesting on the detroit locker, never heard that before. That would be cool.

Yep, unfortunately the whole truck was stripped. It looks like it was just used as a cargo truck for quite a while. All the rest of the cool bits were long gone. I have been watching the web carefully for parts, but no luck so far.

Don't know about the Detroit Locker. I haven't heard of that before and didn't see anything in the manual. I'll check with my Pops and see if he knows anything about it.

If your M756 comes up missing, it wasn't me

I got an email from a guy indicating he had some pipeline trucks for parts. As soon as he confirms what he has, I'll let you know. Also, resident deuce expert, David Doyle says that there is a good possibility of Detroits in the back of the M756A2.

Chris, that guy is in Wisconsin and he has 2 parts trucks and one mostly complete he says. If you think your father is interested in getting stuff from him let me know and I'll get you his Email. If your dad does go up, let me know. Maybe I can get him to bring me back some bed sides.

I've delt with Oshkosh before. Nice people to do business with. I got a 5-ton from them for a coal mining operation out of Kentucky. I delivered it personally the same day I got it from Oshkosh. That was a long 14 hour trip. I wish I had another 5-ton just like it. She had a Mack motor and boy did she run sweet!!!!!

[3]Hey Chris! Would it be possible to get some pics of the Dad's Pipeline Maintenance Truck? I'm trying to pu together a little pic library to assist me in building mine. I also found that guy in WI with pipeline trucks. Another thought, are all the winch mounts still in the back? IIRC, the rear winch is basically the same as a front 5 ton truck winch except the drive gear. Does his truck still have the rear PTO?[/3]

If I remember right Jack Tomlin had a complete one. If anyone can giveyou any information that guy can! I don't know how helpful that would be though, Jack is such a wealth of knowledge that sometimes he can actually give you too much info making your head spin for weeks after http://www.jtomlin.com/

Here's an interesting story on Jack-http://www.tooeletranscript.com/archives/1.23.01/charges.html of course he had LEGALLY purchased everything but leave it to CA to blow things out of proportion and charges have since been dropped

I remember all that BS with Jack. I know he was a bit tore up from all that but I do remember nothing ever did come out of it. I'll contact Jack to see what he can tell me. Of course I'll let him know that the recorder is running so that I get all the info.

Hey Kenny,
Sorry I missed all of your M756 posts. I know my Dad would be interested in those parts trucks and we would be glad to bring some parts back for you. What all did he have up there?

As for the winch mount, yep it is still there for the most part. The PTO is there, but the gear is gone for the chain drive. I had heard they were the same as the 5-ton, but could not confirm that. That would make things easier. He definitely needs the gin poles, the trundle that connects them, the support legs, and other assorted bit to make it work.

Kenny, one other thought, Jeff Symanski from Tactical Truck used to have a complete 756. I have talked to him about it before after my Dad got his. I was going to drive down to VA and look at it sometime, but I haven't made it yet. Might be worth a call.

Chris, the 5 ton winch is the same except the drive system. Jeff did have a parts truck too ut has since lost it to the storage demons. He still has his other truck but like just about every pipeline truck owner, he too is looking for parts. I've emailed that guy in WI again last night and I'm going to see what he has for us. Last account he had a complete truck and at least one other parts truck. Bjorn Brandstedt might be interested in a bare bed for his crane truck. There is also a guy in NJ that has the sister truck to your dads truck right down to the door decal. I'm trying to get with as many 756 owners as I can to make up a network. If you have a good fabricator availble, I have all but one sheave assy to complete a truck. Some of this stuff might be able to be copied. If you don't mind, send me some pics of the 756. I'm trying to gather all I can about these trucks.
