MOG trailers ?

Hello All in MOG land :razz:

I am currious what if any knowledge do you all have on trailers for a Swiss MOG to pull ?, did they or are they even available anywhere ? especially ex Swiss units to match there MOGS ? ......... did anyone import them or did the Swiss even have any ?

I am also currious would a M105 trailer be about the right size to tow behind a 404 or is it too big ?, well any help and or pictures PM'd to me would be great, If any of you who have MOGS also own M105's Id like to see a pic of them together to size them up width and size wize.

Im still lookin at Deuces but getting them to Canada is a slow process and Ive actually thought a MOG might also fit the bill, they are smaller, more usable and are easily obtainable up here and full insurable and driveable, so looking at my options :grin:

The trailer thing would be a nice addition to a MOG.

Also anyone who has any Swiss MOG parts trucks etc Im looking for a set of
brown, front wheel foot rings that bolt to the rim to put your foot on to get into the cab, If anyone has any pls PM me with info and pics.

well - width wise they are ok.

We put a M105 trailer bed on my UniMog.

Here is a pic of the M105 hooked to the MOG for reference.

The biggest issue would be the lack of airbrakes - atleast my MOG does not have them.
So a heavy loaded M105 would push you around.
Also on mine you can see that te pintle is just barely big enough to take the M105 ring at all.

I am looking into getting a M101 since it has surge breaks.

And for those that might comment that the M105 bed looks odd on the MOG- it is currently getting the wheels wells taked out and filled in.
Once complete it should look like it might have been made for the MOG - atleast that is the goal.

Willy has NO trailers at this time but sure has lotsa other cool stuff.

Looks like the M105 is a bit to large for the MOG as a trailer, maybe a maybe a M101 is the better fit size wise do all of them have surge brakes ?, whats the tire size ?

I heard from our motor vehicle inspector that ex-military Mog's are no longer allowed to pass a vehicle inspection if they are equipped with bushings in the axles vs bearings.

He said there had been accidents were folks were overheating the bushing causing seizure.

bushings in axles ........... thats a first for me , Mmmm Ill have to check on that, most MOGS Ive seen all pass inspection as long as they get DOT tires and the tailights changed out to red and yellow as well as 17 digit VIN # are issued other than thats its straight forward.

M-105 behind 404 Unimog

There is a special trailer for a 404 Unimog. I don't have a picture. The tongue is unique in that it can be raised and lowered by loosening, adjusting the angles, and tightening, at two joints. I have seen pictures and it's not a light weight trailer, and usually has a higher price than an M105. (couple of thou $ maybe?)

I pull an M105A2 behind my 404 Unimog radio truck. The mog is air equipped and has the trailer controller on the steering column. Works great. With a load in the trailer, the trailer will stop the truck, too. The M-105 has great brakes. Amount of braking is adjustable from the controller, and then follows the truck brake petal.

The 404 pulls the trailer well enough, just not fast. Gearing down an extra gear on hills is necessary but then the trailer is mostly ignored back there otherwise.

I agree that you must have brakes on the M-105, especially with a loaded trailer or an unloaded truck.

BTW, I also pull an M-105 with my U-1300 and hardly know its back there.

I have an M101 to pull behind my Swiss Mog. Looks and tows good. It is slow, but then it is slow without a trailer...
Since my Mog doesn't have air for the brakes on the 105, I don't pull it.

I'd like to have one of those Swiss trailers, but too spendy for me.

Hi mog guys,

Quick answer to the trailer lights is that European legislation is that military, commercial and trailers over 3500kg are required to have running and marker lights which can be seen from the front and side.

Now to trailers, Unimogs were never really designed for speed although some can be quick enough. Most Unimogs will however pull heavy trailers, the road/rail mogs will haul up to 600 tons of freight wagons for example. The Unimog U2450L 6x6 will run at around GTW 70K lbs withought undue strain.

There are many people teeling a lot of "nonsence" about Unimogs.
The 404S is 1.5 ton truck with the capability to tow trailers of almost any weight, if equiped propperly and the hp is sufficient.
Standard is due to the legal requirements ot the late 50s of the last century: halve the curb weight as an unbraked trailer, if the minimun deceleration of 40 % is achieved (0.4 g or 0.4 m/s² deceleration).
Any heavier trailer requires a air system. The 404S system is designed to the requirements of the late 50's. Emergecy pressure of air is a maximum of 7 bar and the yellow line doses not supply more than 6,5 to 7 bar. This fits somewhat to the old trailers like the M105, which by brake design is nothing else than a addeted axle without any kind of load sensing.
U1300 are good for a maximum of 1500 kg of unbreaked trailers according to the German type approval. And the guys from Unimog will not give you a pound more. However, the U1300 useually is equiped with air trailer breakes, 8.5 bar emergancy (red line) and 8 bar on the yellow line.
So, whatever you try with a MOG, do not forget is it's limits. They are baby's of their time, means old (Most of them; a M715 also is old!)!
