I finally decided to bite the bullet and just buy a new turbo. I couldn't justify the cost of a used one over the new.

First off, THANK YOU to this website and also their sponsor Saturn Surplus. I got a new turbo for a great price from them and shipping wasn't bad either! Thanks Mark for the great service.

Hopefully I can get this beast running this weekend since I haven't been able to start it since it came home from the DRMO yard on a flatbed.

Does anyone know if this is a whistler or not? I really don't care but it would be nice to know.

Matt;
It looks like a C, but I could be wrong. The only way to really tell is to hook it up! Let us know!

Are the Saturn's Turbos really $175.00 like it shows on the web site? If not what does one cost?

Yes they are!

Here's a pic of my old turbo next to my new one. Looks like I HAD a whistler and got a non. Not that I really care. I just wish I could get the truck operational. I finally got it started and it still has a really bad knock. No more smoke though! The old turbo was BAD. Pics to follow when I get time.

The deuce is so loud when running I can't tell what cylinder the knock is coming from. But it is just coming from one. Any suggestions as to figuring out what it is? I can't decide if I should drop the oil pan first or take the top end off.

Take a 5/8 wrench, crack the injector line one at a time where it goes into the injector. May want to wrap a rag around the fitting so fuel doesn't spray everywhere. As you crack the lines the engine should run rough if the injector is good.

Whats your oil press when warm? Mine had 14psi when warm with #2 & 3 main bearings bad. If yours just has a bad rod bearing you maybe able to swap it out from the bottom with just the pan off. I ended up removing my motor to have the crank machined down .010 - good luck w/yours- Pappa-g

Did you have to send your old turbo in for a core? I hate to drop the coins right now but if I wait too long they will be out or the price may go up. I think He's got (everyone) beat on Turbos prices
