I almost had a heart attack when I read the topic line. I was expecting to see somebody recovering an M146 with a pickup truck. I'm not saying that a pick up would not be capable of hauling that kind of weight, but it would not be safe. Unfortunately I know all too well from hauling some of our farm equipment with my Chevy 2500 HD just because the truck is capable of pulling it does not mean you should do it. Glad to see that you used common sense and did not haul it anywhere over the road.

Naaa .

even i am not that crazy! there are a lot of things i will do that make folks shake their heads. but dragging something like this down the road at high speed is to risky for me.

i needed to move it and the F250 happened to be the closest pintle hitch.

sorry about the heart attack. maybe i should have named the thread something different.

this is about the only way i will pull a dolly with the p/u down the road.

empty!

The trailer is really only about 7000 lbs. If you could hook it up with a fifth wheel in the truck it would probably not be that bad except for no brakes. Not saying it would be smart but most of the fifth wheel or goose neck travel trailers are at or more than 7000 with comparable surface area to catch the wind. Interestingly enough, the wheel carriage on M146 is only held on by four large bolts and the brake system is attached to glad hands under the trailer. The carriage assembly is probably about half the weight of the trailer.

you are rite about the weight.

with the dolly under it its 10,000 pounds with no toung weight.

no big deal as i was just using it because im lazy and the F250 was the closest.

i would have no worries towing it down the road if the brakes were compatible between the 2 units.

Are the fifth wheel camper kingpins the same size? Has anyone tried that yet? I can see a bunch of bad things come from this. I like it!
