Mutilation?

Was there ever a case when an item that requires mutilation was not mutilated and the buyer was allowed to leave the lot with the item intact?

It used to be quite common for scrap to be sold by the pound with no mutilation required. GL was even known to divide the lots up into small piles so people like us could afford to bid on them. Now it has to be destroyed while they watch, as far as I know.

Stuff used to get out in those big 4 x 4 foot boxes (triwalls) also. In the past, DRMO would just throw a bunch of stuff in a box and sell it, now they itimize every item in the box by NSN.

If a lot was all one thing that can be released without mutilation, they might still let it go through without mutilation. But if they can't prove that everything in the lot is ok to release, they may still require it all to be mutilated. The new rules are to prevent what the original post was asking about. ie something that should be mutilated being released in usable condition.

It has been my observation that most mixed lots of scrap require everything to be mutilated even if everything in the pictures is ordinary stuff.

I've seen a bunch of aluminum scrap lots with perfectly usable 80/20 extrusions. All mutilation required. *sigh*

John Keynes is having a perpetual orgasm in **** and Milton Friedman's grave just might violate the first law of thermodynamics.
