Winch issue

So I finally got a new u-joint onto my winch driveline and tried it out. It seems that the front control lever will only shift from "N" to "F". But it will not shift back. So to properly run the winch I need at least one other person with me. One to handle the front control and one to hit the clutch when the winding is done. Any thoughts??

the control on the front is for in or out of gear
to reel it in and out is done in side the truck
you need to read up on it so no one will get hurt

I've never had the problem myself, but a friend who's rebuilt a ton of winches told me about the winch lever detent bending and binding up. Once this happens it's supposed to be a real PITA to repair. I'll see if I can get him to post over here since he's been inside winches with this problem many times.

Thats what I thought he was talking about. That lever on the front of the winch is to engage and disengage the drive gears. All winching and paying out operations are completed in the cab via the PTO shifter and clutch.

Go to the STICKY at the top of the Forum, and download the TM! <img src="emoticons/icon_smile_smashpc.gif" alt="Smash PC"><img src="speech/icon_speech_no.gif" border="0"><img src="speech/icon_speech_no.gif" border="0">

What you are looking for is the "OPERATORS MANUAL"

TM 9-2320-361-10 para- 2-24

"OPERATION OF FRONT WINCH"

The only -10 Logsa offers without a security code is the 209-10. The
361-10 is still restricted. The 209 explains the operation just as well but I like the 361 series of manuals. I do have the 361-10 in PDF if anybody needs it. Bear with me for a while though, another dang hurricane is barreling in!

The best way to do this, is to get your very own copy of the T.M.! <img src="emoticons/icon_smile_approve.gif" alt="Approve"><img src="speech/icon_speech_yes.gif" border="0">

WWW.militarymedia.com has a great CD with just about all the TM's for $20.00!

The TM 9-2320-361-10, IS on the CD! <img src="emoticons/icon_smile_thumzup.gif" alt="Thumb Up">

The CD # is 980521-1

So this seems like a detent issue? so I am looking at a rebuild? YUK!<img src="emoticons/icon_smilie_bitchin.gif" alt="Bitchin">

Ya think i may get lucky and possibly get away with just working it a bit more? The poor thing probably has not been used for 5 years or more.

BTW.. what kind of lube for winch gear box? leaking fluid looks almost like hyd. or atf..its kinda red.
