bearing chunks in oil pan

I picked up my M185 a couple of weeks ago and drove it roughly 350 miles never exceeding 50mph. Took a couple of hour rests during the trip. Oil press gauge never read above 40 psi 0r below 10.
So I've been knee deep in the web reading any thing I can get my hands on. and figure I should change the filters and such. As I am draining the engine oil I pull enough tin and copper out to supply LAPD with new badges!! No metalic flake to the oil just big ( 1"x1/4") stuff. None in the rear resivoir just the front. Not to be discouraged I finished the oil change and put a direct resding gauge on the engine. At idle 40psi cold - 15 psi hot at 1500 rpm 70 psi cold 50hot. 2k rpm add 5psi
I am usiing 15w-40 the odometer has 2450miles and 820 hours it is a LDT465-1D HERC Manufactured in FEB of 92.
The oil pan is coming off so place your betts - Main or Rod bearing or more than one? will the

Survey says.......multiple bad mains complete with scoring on crankshaft. So whats the next move, replace engine or rebuild? I would appreciate any direction.

That's a tough call... they're both expensive pains in the ass! I'd think a rebuild would be cheaper, but I'm not much of a wrenchmonkey so I dunno.

Sure is a tough break.

I am going to be taking out my engine soon. I've been delayed since I was sent the wrong gears for the new tranny (not high enough of an OD ratio) and so I'm still assembling the new junk for insertion.

Gov Liq almost always has an engine in a case somewhere. You can tell pretty well if its a fresh or a takeout....just a thought.

You can find good condition takeouts pretty reasonable, and most of the places that have them will test fire them for ya. Sarry to hear the bad news. These motors are actually pretty easy to swap out....assuming you have some sort of a good hoist or something.

OK so I tear down the motor and I'm at the point of removing the cam gear so I can remove the frnt engine plate, how is this done? The manual I have shows the cam gear having a retainer nut ( mine does not) and having two threaded holes for a gear puller ( mine doesn't have these either) any advice from the motor pool? Thanks Pappa-G

Are engine parts easy to get? I saw a (new) Herculeas Crank for $100.00 on one of the MV parts web site's, cant remember which one.<img src="emoticons/icon_smile_cool.gif" alt="Cool">

Wonder how much benifit it would be to get the Crank and Rods ballanced, for longer life. My not justify the expense?

That engine was a six cylinder at auction and went for $320. That was a very cheap fix for the Deuce. Maybe next time.
