I see pry 50 people a day driving and talking or texting on there phones. While going to supper with my team we rolled up an a wreck that just happened! My team leader and i are both medics and we carry a medic bag with us in all the vehicles. We jumped out and ran up to the car that was on it's top in the grass. Two teen girls were dead in the car. they had run a red light and got hit by a Lowe's del truck. The girl driving still had the phone in her hand with a half written text message on the screen. This didn't have to happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Truly a shame.

I wonder if the law will ever try to prosecute the other person texting with vehicular homicide(in the future).

If that were not so tragic my comments would be different. I hate to see anyone injured or God forbid...killed.:(

Your message is clear tigger.

It is a problem that needs to be addressed nationwide...and in force.:deadhorse:

My town has a new law against using hand held devices while driving. It has changed nothing. Now instead of seeing people openly talking or texting now you see them looking down into their laps trying to be sneeky about it.

It's like DUI laws. Most people think it will never happen to them until they themselves or a close loved one is involved in an accident.

What a Shame. Guess people have to learn the hard way sometimes though....

What gets me though is if a law is passed it needs to be passed for EVERYONE. NO EXCEPTIONS. How can you expect a officer to enforce a no texting law when they themselves need to type on a laptop, talk on a radio, and concentrate on driving fast through traffic with lights and a siren.... all at the same time

just saying.....

It is ironic how a device parents give to their kids to keep them safe and get them help probably statistically has a better chance of getting them killed . A few weeks ago I lost power one evening , I was happy to be able to use my MEP003 to run the house through the night . I found out the next day I lost power because a 17 year old boy ( who should have been in jail for burglary ) was jumping the railroad tracks for the second time in a row . He rolled the car and knocked over a telephone pole killing a 16 year old girl in the back seat . All of the sudden I was depressed about having to use the generator .I believe most kids just will not listen until tragedy strikes close to home . I work in a body-shop and tell people we no longer need snow and ice or deer to keep us busy , cellphones and idiots keep us busy .

I am truly sorry for this tragic loss. But until we can educate the young folks about the dangers of talking and texting while driving nothing is going to change. You cannot make a law that will stop this as they will find other ways to text., as in down in the lap. Young ones think they are invincibal, I did once also. I survived and am much wiser now, but these young,ns would call me old fashioned. Keep your wits about you and don,t be distracted by anything, that is the only way to avoid an accident. Also watch out for all the people around you as they may be texting and not see you stopping for that red light.

Officers get alot of driver training. (the good ones anyways) Most kids now get a car with an auto and a 10 minute lecture. The sent on their merry way

I wonder how many folk have perished or caused another to persih because they were trying to light up a stogey or dig for the cigarette they just dropped. They haven't outlawed smoking and driving yet. As others have said, you can't outlaw stupid. I'm going to side with Mahala on this one, natural selection. Sad fact is that stupid is often responsible for others premature demise. In reference to the Popo, lots of LEO involved accidents were because of just that, too much going on while driving. Between the puter, radio and the idiots that panic at the sight of a police vehicle, its tough to be safe.
