MB Engine Question for you experts

Hey guys long time not chat. Im looking at a GPW with a Willys engine in it. I have a few pics, Would this be a '42-'45 Willys MB engine? I need to know for sure before I buy it. , Thank you!

It's got a postwar head on it. Everything else looks WWII
For a WWII block, pass side block casting # 638632 for MB & GPW 6015 for Ford
a pad on top side of block, behind the oil filter would be stamped MB######

Look for a machined flat area behind the oil filter, like bob said should start with GPW or MB and some numbers. If not look for a flat surface above the waterpump for numbers(postwar). Keep us posted.

Thanks guys, I signed up on G503 today. I will ask about the numbers now. Im guessing a MB or GPW head can still be found? Jay

If you want to know the date of manufacture for a Willys MB engine you can drop the oil pan and look for a date stamp by the rear main seal. I admit it is extreme, but I have seen cases where the number stamped on the boss behind the oil filter housing can be misleading.
