To all Wisconsin Historic Military Vehicle Owners,

LEGISLATIVE ALERT
Your Help Is Needed Again!

Since the creation of the Wisconsin Historic Military Vehicle law in 2010, we have worked on your behalf to improve the law in your favor. We have campaigned the state legislature and the state Dept of Transportation (DOT) over the past year to create an amendment to the current Historic Military Vehicle Statute. The amendment bill will add several improvements and make operating former military vehicles is Wisconsin as historic vehicles easier for all of us. But we need your help.

TWO IMPORTANT CHANGES
TO THE 2010 WISCONSIN HISTORIC MILITARY VEHICLE LAW
ARE NOW BEING INTRODUCED IN THE STATE LEGISLATURE

1) The new bill allows you more operation with less restrictions. It adds approval to operate a Historic Military Vehicle for “Occasional Personal Use,” but not for regular daily transportation, and adds additional specific language that allows the vehicles to also be used for “club activities, exhibitions, and tours”.

2) The new bill adds language to allow Non Operational Parts Vehicles to be kept on your property if you have an HMV licensed vehicle.

These activities were not part of the original bill that became Wisconsin law in 2010. Help amend the 2010 Wisconsin HMV law by writing, calling and emailing your Wisconsin state legislators in both the state Assembly and Senate today.

Ask them to co-sponsor and support the changes to the Historic Military Vehicle Bill proposal LRB−3349/P1

You can find you r state legislators contact information on the Web at http://legis.wisconsin.gov

The bill lead sponsor in the Senate is Senator Frank Lasee – 1st Senate District (Fox Valley)

For those of you who choose HMV plates, it gives some extra driving privileges. This is a good change to the HMV law.

Everybody should also be made aware that there have been simultaneous efforts underway for several months to draft legislation which will ensure that owners of former military vehicles can also choose to register their vehicles for normal uses. Although our bill is not yet ready for introduction, it is very close.

To avoid hijacking Jeff's thread, I'll start a separate one and release more info on it there.

I wish they would add the "occasional personal use" to our historic vehicle laws in Michigan. Ours requires that you be transporting it from one residence to another or for "historical club activities, parades, and car shows."

WI HMV Amendment

The Occational Personel Use" language is used in a number of different states under their Historic Vehicle use laws. So we copied it.

I am responding with the same note in both this post and the one started by Paul. I juat got off the phone with a representative I know that has a Jeep and is buying a trailer from me. He doesn't like the HMV law as written because of the limited use on even him. The sad part of my conversation with him though is that he hasn't heard a single word on eaither of these bills yet. I just sent him the bill numbers and the run down of what we are hoping to accomplish with both of them. He told me that he will get the info together tomorrow and get on as a co-sponsor right away. Please take the time to contact your reps and let them know these bills exist. My fear is that we are not making our case known and this will fall by the wayside.
Thank you.
