Removing the headlights to paint the rusted assembly. How do I disconnect these cables? I've been pulling/twisting/cussing but none are working lol. I'm about to say screw it and just mask it all off, sand, then paint.

Another question I have is for my turn signals up front, has anyone replaced them with the off-road 4" square LED lights? I looked at the LED conversion turn signals and they're over priced for what they are...

Spray a little silicon spray in the connector. Use a small pick to separate the connectors. Pick available at harbor freight for a couple bucks.

The back of the housing is the male end. The truck wiring harness is the female end. Spray the silicon in the female end soak for a bit use the pick to seperate

As for the light question... I was under the assumption that one could purchase the LED bulbs that were 24v for the original housings on truck.. They don’t really cost that much, I think I saw a whole truck set for all the lights for $75 bucks or so.. Now if you change out all the housings for new “LED” housings and bulbs, that be like $750 😂😂😂. That ain’t happening for me...

LED conversion lights *may* require updating the flasher box or adding a resistor to fool it into thinking everything is incandescant. Very good write up on how to build a new flasher module on the cheap (and better) in the electrical section of the forum.

I'll be doing the LED bulb converison once I get through the rest of the mechanical stuff I'm working on.

As for the light question... I was under the assumption that one could purchase the LED bulbs that were 24v for the original housings on truck.. They don’t really cost that much, I think I saw a whole truck set for all the lights for $75 bucks or so.. Now if you change out all the housings for new “LED” housings and bulbs, that be like $750 😂😂😂. That ain’t happening for me...

Lol, yeah ive got all LED bulbs installed, I was referring to the housing :ROFLMAO: wayyyy over priced

If you want to switch over to LEDs there are plenty of benefits to them. Lower current draw, longer life, and brighter output. Searching online you can find them priced all over the place and in almost every style and color you want. Just be careful with what you buy. They're made here in the US, and all over Asia and you'll generally get what you pay for. Personally I went with the Truck-Lite LEDS. They were one of the first 24v LEDs available and are US made. A little more expensive but the quality is outstanding and the beam shape is too. I would suggest that you stay away from all the kids trick lights with color changing halos and all the other crap they offer today. Put something decent in your HMMWV and be happy.


When you install whatever lights you decide on always put a little silicon lube on the connectors. I use Dow Corning DC-4 to keep the connectors soft and pliant but any lube will do. The Army used Vaseline.

Anyone know where I can purchase the rubber bushing with threads that the bucket secures to? Mine broke off... The spring also broke off the bucket. So I should probably replace them both.

McMaster Carr has them and they're available online. Just be careful you get shock mounts with long enough studs.
