my 5/8in 8 point socket arrived today from amazon. hopefully when I get home from work I'll be able to uninstall that stuck pipe plug from my water pump and finish my coolant filter install.

I finally got that pipe plug on my water pump broken loose and the last half of my coolant filter installed. The plug took a 5/8th 8pt socket attached to a 2ft breaker bar. I installed everything with copious amounts of anti-seize to avoid this issue in the future.

After I mounted everything, I filled the cooling system, with normal water and brought the truck to operating temps (to not only test for leaks but also to open the t-stat). Once the thermostat was open, I drained all the water and the rest of the coolant that was behind the thermostat when I originally drained the cooling system.

Today I'll add fresh coolant and everything should be good to go.

Hose routing for coolant filter is different for a heater hookup vs no heater.
You want particulars?
yes please. I was copying several coolant filter installs I read on the forum, but if there is a correct way to do it, them I'm all ears.

*** edit***
on edit, it looks like I should have made a loop between the coolant jacket & water pump then run a second loop (off that loop) for my filter). Is this how it should have been done?

Things rarely go as planned.

I backed the Deuce into the shop early last March and tore the center axel down to replace a leaking wheel cylinder. I had the drums turned and got new cylinders and pads. My intent was to have it put back together by mid-March in time for the annual Texas rally. Then the world got crazy, the rally was cancelled and I didn’t see my truck for 2 months.

Well, I finally got everything back together and the breaks adjusted and bled. The test drive revealed a good break petal and a happy Deuce that hasn’t seen the sun in months.

texas30cal and Nitrodiver helped with the reassembly, which was greatly appreciated!

Was doing some reading a few weeks ago and found out how important the dog bone ends are. Mine were in horrible shape.
Shortly after, Daisy was on blocks for the replacement. Since I had the wheels off I repacked the bearings(again) and adjusted the brakes. I also took a peek at my trunnions and ended up doing a minor service on them.
Since I work and play with the truck and have no plans on selling it, I went with the ball-joint style ends for the dog bones. Also end up having to get new U-bolts after teardown.
While I was messing with the truck in the shop, my girlfriend washed, scuffed, and painted the wheels :), and we got it all bolted back together with a week to spare before the Haspin Rally. Still might add some backup lights if time allows...
Really hoping she holds up otherwise!

Almost forgot to mention the custom "bridge plate" my stepdad made as a gift.
He's been finding excuses to play with his new CNC machine, and I've no complaints with the results (y)

Removed passemger side fender, cut out the rusted through front cab corner and welded in a patch:

Then I tackled the fender. The front lip where it mounts to the fender support had rust jacking.

Cut the whole lip out and made a new one.

A lot of welding for someone who slowly learns how to weld!

My truck is otherwise totally rust-free. The front cab corner was rusted through due to the area below the vent being packed with dirt and leaves when I got the truck 10 years ago; about time I fixed it!
The fenders are badly designed with two sheets of steel on top of each other and the seams facing the tire spray. I can't see how they can NOT rust over time.

Starting the next project. New wheels with mounted radial tires. Ordered Monday at 10am. Delivered Wednesday by 1pm. Bryce Equipment is fast!

I’ll be glad to get rid of the 25 year old tube tires and murder rims. Having a hell of a time finding information on flipping the hubs. Tried to search, but some old “Search Nazi“ shut down literally every thread where anyone asked about it. All you get are results for M109 brakes and other unrelated stuff.
This is a great social forum, but the search Is terrible and asking questions is like crossing the Berlin Wall in 1985.

Thanks for trying, but try that was an utter rabbit hole. Not a single thread had pics or useful info for a FNG wanting to flip his hubs. Bunch of chatter about bearings and used overalls. Wasted another half hour.

If folks didn’t get blasted for asking questions, there’d be a ton of great answers here. Google works great because there are 2-million answers to every question. If there was a cranky old guy telling people to “search harder” when they had a question, Google would be out of business. Just sayin’

Love you guys here. Great group. Some are just wound up a tad tighter.
