Hello, I have the genset MEP-803A that runs great. I bought it as a running unit but not making power. I found the FU1 fuse and cap were missing. I did ask about it in another post,,,thanks to all that helped me get those parts together. The generator does make power now to charge the batteries. Unfortunately I did not check the fuse for the voltage regulator and it is blown so I'll have to find one of those now. The gauges are not accurate at all so I'll need to replace the temp unit with something...it shows almost 200 when it's 155 on the upper hose and 167 at the hottest point on the thermostat housing. I did hook up a gauge to the oil line and it is pretty close so that's a win. The fuel shows over full but I only put 5 gallons in it so I may need to run more seafoam in it to possibly get the float skin to clean up...I can get lucky sometimes. So I do see I am missing that update part for pin 7 and 8 on the VR...I'll search that up too to get that on there as well. I want to get this up and going in the next couple weeks...I'll post up what I do and if there's anything you think I should do I'd appreciate any comments. I guess one thing I'd ask is do many of you put a small solar charger on this to keep the batteries topped off?? I am only a few steps away from the back door so I can start it whenever but it may be nice to have them slow charged all the time...I did put AGM batteries in it....600 cca 800 ca so they got a good but of power to kick this over.
Thanks a bunch!
Rich

Buy several fuses for the VR. That way, if it blows, you know you need a new VR AND you have another good fuse to go with it.

Normally, when you have a fuel gauge stuck in the over full position you need to:

1. Tap on the meter a bit.
2. Check that it is hooked up correctly.
3. Pull the sending unit out, and look at it.

So a quick thing, turn your voltage knob to 3 o clock, that should make your voltage gauge read (as your S8 is set to make 120/240 1ph).
Will it show power being made if the VR fuse is blown? I removed it now but it is in the picture....I really think I may get the VR that the user Kurt has put together...from what I've learned the fuse blows because the VR goes bad...I want to try a fuse just to see if it'll make power at all but not to hopefull on that one...I look forward to getting that and possibly the remote start deal too!

I'll play with the sender some day....not a huge priority since I'm hooking up 2 275 gallon tanks to it to run on so it should never run out!

The set should show AC voltage on the meter when you start it and hold the main switch (S1) in the START position after it starts. When you release S1 to the Prime/Run position the AC output will cease if the fuse is blown.
Holding S1 in the START position causes the set to Flash the generator head bypassing the VR thus causing it to momentarily generate AC voltage.

Thanks so much!! I did the 3 oclock with the voltage adjuster and held the start knob after it started and it did make 140 volts! so that's good right!! That makes me very happy that all I'll need is the new VR!!

Filled up our diesel tank yesterday. Off road @ $1.59.

Robert
I have 3 275 gallon tanks I filled up when oil was negative 25 or so a barrel...they gave me a 0.89 per gallon delivered so I should be good for a while! I feel no guilt about it either since I have paid close to 4$ a gallon in the winter!!

Yes that's a good sign!
I'll run out to see if I can find that fuse just because I'm weird then I'll order your stuff we emailed about yesterday! If you're on instagram my name is the same there as here if you want to see some more of the genset!

TEST, TEST, TEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get a fuse, stick it in and try it. Several times over the years, when troubleshooting the TQG's, I found a bad VR fuse, and thinking "The VR is bad". Well, no it wasn't. It would seem, that someone had probably, (I can not say with 100% certainty) needed a a fuse, and to hide the theft, replaced it with the bad one.

Absolutely getting a new fuse!! I got lucky as a local company is a Busmann dealer and had them in stock!! I hope it works...thing I do question is the update showed the FNQ-R-3 as a 3 amp rating...I thought it was 30 amp?? I got the exact part number at 3 amps...so it might work or pop right away!!

Howdy,
You have the correct fuse. With a meter handy, try it all out.

note= your temp gauge looks fine. That's where it should be when running. It will never match a infrared spot temp.

I'm glad that my local electrical store had the fuse in stock because the gauge is showing 240 volts now...I want to produce the 52 amps at 240 volts so i think I have the switch at the correct place...I have a good volt meter but I have no idea how to hook it up so I can check volt output on each leg...I may have a blown fuse in my meter too...It has seen some crazy stuff over the years...so I can use my old analog meter to check...I assume the red lead goes on peg 1 and the black on the N peg...I still plan on getting the other VR just so I know I won't have weird problems with fuses and charging....good to know about the temp!!!

So I used my old 10$ tiny analog meter set to 150 volts and found 120 volts on leg 1 and 3! I have not loaded it yet but at least it is showing volts!!

Make sure to never, never, never switch from 1ph to 3ph (single phase to three phase or vise versa) with the set running. From your comments it seems you just need 1 ph. Bad things can happen if you do. Do you have several tractors or pieces of equipment? We used to farm full time and just had the one 150 gal tank.
