Installed a 60A 24VDC to 13VDC converter. This will help not only with future accessories but help my mechanic and I sort out wiring up a Hummer H1 turbo diesel and 4spd drivetrain later this coming week. While I may end up converting it all over to 24V, this allows us to get on the road faster, by not having to swap out injection pumps and the TCU. Can’t use the IP off my 6.2 cause it hasn’t seen service since 1987!
I am leaning toward a full 24V system in the end, but have been meaning to put a 24-12 converter in anyway.
Wired it to the alternator output and ground. That way it is already on a switched 24VDC source. No need for a separate solenoid or switch.

That area gets wet from rain and while driving. Unless that device is specifically waterproof that might be a very bad modification. Your 12V engine will stop in the rain. Better to install a two voltage alternator.

You will also seriously miss your water for the wipers in Winter But also late Summer with the bugs flying everywhere.

Better to place that device under the passenger seat and next to the batteries.

IMHO

Best,

T

Worthwhile considerations Tobash. The converter Is immersion rated (though Chinese so time will tell). I didn’t interfere with the wiper wash tank or piping. That area was empty before.
I didn’t want to put anything in the battery compartment because I was worried about direct immersion. We do some fording at the Graves Mountain rallies each year.

Fording is cool BUT I think a dual voltage amp is the safest way for you to go my friend.

Trusting stuff not made in the USA is questionable... Look for the Union Label....". Trusting stuff from an "honest" country that hid a deadly virus since August 2019, (as proven by satellite images showing crowded hospitals), will leave you stranded.

Just look what happens to PCB's that contain parts from that same country.

IMHO, YMMV

I considered a dual-voltage alternator and may yet install one. The converter is a temporary fix in my eyes. The engine I'm taking delivery of Wednesday already has a 12V alt on it as well. Plenty of options. I would think a third battery for the 12V system would be needed, but I could find a place for it certainly.
This build is going to proceed in phases, as I'm not doing it all myself. I'd start with a more firm plan if I was leading the charge, but Tactical Truck is doing the initial work, to get everything working and back on the road, then I will take over and improve redundancy and reliability as necessary.

The best time to install the hardware and wires for the duel alternator is NOW, when the engine is out and the wires disconnected.

Sometimes the fastest and easiest way is to bite the bullet. You will thank me later.

Best of luck,

So how do you plan on making the DS4 injection pump Work? Needs an ECM to run as well as PMD.
just me personally, I would never want a DS4 pump over a DB2 for any reason.
Is your plan to make a H1 takeout work? If so, You may find it a lesson in futility and no cost benefit.
Why not just get a military takeout turbo drivetrain?

Got my official HMMWV hauling trailer today, bought it from a transport company that was downsizing because of the Wuhan Flu, I had to look around to find a gooseneck that I could pull without a CDL, many companies that build these trailers with 2, 7K axles add to the GVWR if it is a gooseneck rather than a bumper pull, makes no sense but I guess they are counting what weight can be applied to the hitch, anyway it is very common to see these with a 15900lb GVWR which is fine for the "normal" dually that is rated at 9900lb leaving a little wiggle room for the 26001lb combined limit, But I did not realize it at the time but the 2008 GMC 3500HD I just bought has an "enhanced chassis" and is at 11800lb GVWR, any-who this trailer has a GVWR of 14000lb leaving me 200lb wiggle room.
They put the plywood on all the trailers they buy to protect the deck where the heaviest loads would be placed so I should be able to pull that off, and the ramp pocket doors were a little tweaked and the ramps were gone so we grabbed some off of another trailer as the guy said they never use them. It has a 20' deck, shopping for a winch right now...

My son and I made a Youtube walk around/ride along video in ours . He is honing his video making skills. He is 16 and essentially direct and shot and edited it all. We did one on the boat the week before and are going to do one on the 23 T-bucket and the 69 Camaro. Been a while since I posted and I screwed up my log-on this morning. THANK YOU ANDREW for fixing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We also drove it nearly 100 miles yesterday to pick up some supplies. It is 100+ here with the heat index. Having the two man set up with doors off and curtain rolled up was a blessing in the heat. Except he got sunburned on the right leg/arm/face on the way to our destination, and I got it one the left on the way back.

New Rapco paint, inside and out, new stainless hardware on all lights, windshield, mirrors, grill, etc., all new decals, new tail lights, reflectors, side markers, new doors, new windshields and seals, new interior wood, refinished the mesh grills, bumper, and all mesh with semi-gloss black, new PCV, new cold advance sensor, new harmonic balancer, crank pulley, crank bolt and washer, new 24v/12v converter, new top (this weekend).

Still to add Red-Dot AC, rear curtain, rain guard, brown bucket seats, new instruments (just for cosmetics) and a massive audio system. Oh, and a locking vertical center console mount for my M4 commando with spikes tactical launcher.

I have to admit not knowing the difference.
Since my takeout 6.2 has a DB2, it sounds like we'll have to send it for rebuild, which is not a problem. The power pack was just delivered today, and it hasn't been unwrapped to see what we've got yet. We start Saturday, or more likely Monday.
Yes, I plan to make an H1 powerpack work in a HMMWV, because it was more than half the price of a takeout late mode M998 power pack. It's not a drop-in fit, but neither is a late-model HMMWV power pack in a stock 1987 M998.
We'll get there.
