pulling trigger on hard doors

I was in the same boat recently, wanted hard doors but couldn't justify the price. I looked at the aluminum doors you mentioned, but they just didn't look right to me. West Kentucky Surplus makes their own fiberglass doors which look way closer to the original military doors, but I don't have any experience with them or that company. Anyway I ended up getting a set of really beat up military x-doors and fixed them up with some bondo and paint, they turned out great and I saved several thousand dollars.

First I have nothing to do with these doors and I have no first hand experience. I just happen to see them today on a facebook group named "HMMWV Swap Meet". There is some discussion going on about fit etc, and I would recommend checking out the discussion if you are interested. I did not see a website listed and seem to be made by the person listing them.

Points from the discussion...
It suggests the delivery time is probably 2 months due to him making them to order.
The cost say $2000 for a set of 4
Someone questioned the inside finish, they are not like the ones with the red fiberglass showing but are finished like the ones that are black.
And as with every door, how it fits.
One person gave a great review when compared to the price point.

I pieced together and new set of x-doors and I ended up with 5 doors and I have 5,300 in 5 really nice doors. I will probably sell the xtra door for 900 or 1,000 so 4,300 for the real deal is ok compared to what they are asking for aftermarket.

Does the buyer have to drill holes in the doors for hinges? I wonder how many times that gets screwed up.

Not sure my leg would get along with the forward door latch release, I guess it could be extended.

I've been looking at the Cobra Tek 'convertible' doors as i like the option of running full or half doors depending on the weather/season.
But I don't have first hand experience of them

I own a set of Plan B doors. (the older/simpler doors, not the newer 'signature' doors)
They're ok. I got a good deal on them a few years ago & I've been happy with them.

the worst aspect is they use the original soft door wire-loop strikers and that situation is lame. I think they have improved that in their current design to use a more standard automotive latch/post.

I would love original x-doors but the candidates I've found are both expensive and beat to hell. When you consider the total cost to fix them up its not very sensible.

The many aluminum doors out there with horizontal sliding windows are barely a manufactured product. They are more of a kit of generic off the shelf parts. The only thing the door sellers 'make' is outsource a laser shop to cut and bend the aluminum. You do all the finishing/assembly yourself. Which is fine and good for them. But if the latches, the windows, the weatherstrip, the pull handles, the hardware, are all a click away and shipped free from amazon...all I really need is a .dxf file to have the 1/4" aluminum cut/bent locally.

I was originally looking at the CobraTek doors. After giving it some thought, I decided against the aluminum doors. I don't think I'd like to be up against the metal either in the heat of the summer or on a zero degree winter's day. Also, they will show every dent or dimple just like a stainless refrigerator door.
I did buy the fiberglass ones from West Kentucky Surplus. It was close enough for me to drive to and see them installed on a vehicle. West Kentucky usually has several completed trucks for sale on Ebay and you can see them in those pics painted and installed. They have a nice solid feel and are ready to paint. They were willing to break up a set and sell me the two front doors. No, they are not predrilled for hinges, but they are included along with new striker plates. The only drawback I see is they do not lock while you are driving in the city. They do look good leaning against the wall. When GovPlanet clears my EUC about next July, I will endeavor to install them and post pics!

I agree. Aluminum will dent easily.

As far as GovPlanet getting your EUC to you by July, you are obviously an optimist.

So right from the start he states he doesn't want OEM doors, but the post is Left in the HMMWV section not in the Modification section.
Why do we have two sections?
I know I'm a curmudgeon, but all these new HMMWV owners are coming to this board they paid next to nothing for the truck and then think the price for OEM stuff is too much. Why again did they buy the thing.
if it's not OEM isn't that a modification.
Ok I need to get back out on the lawn pesky kids keep wanting to play in my yard.

That's like 10x thicker then the aluminum skin of the hmmwv.
not easily dented. At least far less easily dented then the HMMWV body itself.
I've used the plan B doors for years, never dented them, not a concern to me.

Original rear half doors are 3/16" thick aluminum. I measured mine at one point in my build thread... https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/my-new-1992-m998-avenger.184818/post-2207356

3/16" thick aluminum weights in at about 1.75 lbs per SQ/FT so an aluminum door 30" x 42" (just a guess) is 8.75 Sq Ft and that is about 15lbs. Then cut out the window and it weights less.

My original X doors probably weigh more than an aluminum door of the same size.

I would also guess that the others are more like 3/16" but I have never measured those.

My truck originally came with doors that had those sliding rv windows. I found them to be absolutely terrible. There was no way to comfortably rest your arm on the sill. And when open, the tint is doubled so you can't really see out of the glass side. Which in mine, blocked the side mirror.

Set of 4 Ugly X Doors, Missing Parts, for HMMWV M998 | eBay I just ran across some beat up X doors which don't seem that bad
I wouldn't give half that for them. All the windows are gone and casings damaged. Damage to some of the mechanisms and missing parts. The fiberglass needs work. You'll probably have another $1000 into by the time you have them all fixed not to mention all kinds of time. You'd be better off paying $4000 for a good set of doors.
