I have tracked down 2 leaks that I want to see if I can fix. The is stuff in the way thought. First is the A/C duct/hose (not sure what to call it) that supplies air to the driver's knee vent. I believe the diesel leak is on the hose/clamp/line the comes from the fuel filter. I would like to remove that duct/hose to gain access and clean. It seems stuck on really good. Any tips on who to remove without destroying things?

How heavy is the alternator? I think one of the power steering hoses is leaking under the alt and would like to remove that... but dang it huge. Oh yeah it one of the 400 amp ones...
Not sure the actual weight, but it's also very awkward to handle. There should be a lifting eye in the top of it. Highly recommended you use some type of lifting device to remove it, and not try to just manhandle it.

If your radiator and condenser are out of the way, you can climb up there and pull it out. That's what I did. It is awkward and heavy but small movement front to back and it will come right out. Or you could use the eyebolt with an engine hoist.

Installed the CDR today. Found that the intake pipe where the CDR hose connects had some oil in. I sure hope this isn't a bad sign.

Pressure washed the truck today... WOW the amount of dust and sand on this truck is amazon. Looks like a beach on my driveway.

There is a hose dangling under the truck in front of the front cross member. There are 2 holes in the crossmember like something was there. Any ideas what they took off?

I lifted mine out when recently rebuilding my steering gear box. It was similar to lifting a 60 pound bag of concrete, so I’m guessing it weighs about 60 pounds. If you can lift a 60 pound bag, you can lift it out, just be careful of your fingers and don’t mash em.

I had some trouble getting that long bolt on the lower side back in place though. Maybe there is an easy way to do it, but that was a pain to get back in for me. Removing It definitely made it easier to get the hoses on the steering gear box reconnected.

You sure it was a 400 amp that you had to lift out?

The 200 amp generator weighs about 70 lbs.
The 400 amp generator is over 110 lbs.

And back to what I asked... What manual has the wiring diagram for the M1152A1? This will be very helpful.

I know how to test glow plug but I do not know how to test the start box... Is there any theory of operations, schematic or?

What I'm writing below this might come across as a little rude, which is not my intent, but sometimes it's just how to get a point across.


From an outside viewpoint, you came in here, told the expert that has no reason why he should help you that his advice was wrong and that you know better, then make insulting comments.

You may not realize just how much respect most of us have for this "person you are sad for"

Almost everyone that has posted on here more than a couple times has been helped by him and his knowledge.

It could be argued that he is the most knowledgeable person about these trucks, and at the very least I doubt anyone here would disagree that he's in the top 10 most helpful people here.

He makes money building, fixing, and selling HMMWVs. It's what he does. He's seen and fixed issues that most of us could never imagine happening. He has no reason to come on here and spend hours providing free assistance to those of us that don't have his experience.

So for someone that is new on here to argue about something he says, and to directly oppose something that he is very adamant about not doing to these trucks, and then to post what could only be interpreted as demeaning/insulting about him; you're not going to get as much support or anywhere near as knowledgeable help as others.

Does anybody know what type of plastic A/C vents are made of? I am thinking ABS but not sure. I need to do some repairs to the vent/ducting

Yeah right... with the clique around here it feel like high school. I know I am not the cool kid but find it funny how people have only been here a shot time calls me "new".

Now we can all keep driving down this road or we can help one another. I will keep on posting questions and progress here about my build. Comment as you feel or ignore me... Or whatever (in valley gurl voice for the cali folks here)

It amazes me some of the "repairs" I have found. One of the rear half shats only has 3 bolts in them and has a worm style hose clamp on the boot. It looks like it has been that way for a very long time. Also there is only one lock washer on one of the 3 bolts. Looks like another order to McMaster Carr for some Nordlocks.

Are the CV boots military only or is there a commercial part available? I did a search but did find anything here in terms of a commercial part.
